As a matter of interest redshank what was the final diagnosis of the problem and how was it caused?

Old house Red? I936 built second which I am sure suffered bomb damage in WW11.BasO said that the allotments in New North Road was hit by a bomb,I did have a search on the Redbridge website which was very evasive about the issue. This damp problem is in the conservatory which is more like an extension rather than a conservatory which was built in 2010. I have two other sections in the house which I can sort out myself despite my body being crabbed with age.

As a matter of interest redshank what was the final diagnosis of the problem and how was it caused? Th wall was built with large blocks. The surveyor said the inside wall should have been rendered with a damp proof sand /cement mixture, not bonding coat plaster that almost sucks in moisture like a sponge. Also the plinth outside was a crumbly mix that just could not cope with all the wet weather we have had in recent months. These works I have had done has a 25 year guarantee,so I can look forward to being over 100 before it happens again.

Makes sense - if you are doing the other bits yourself and they have the same issue I suggest “ Permaproof” waterproofing additive is added to the render. Alternatively try “Dryzone” damp proof renovation plaster - it sets very quickly and controls damp very well.👌

Pleased to say though it never got to the state where mould began forming.I am a bit of a fresh air freak and have the windows open all year round other than when there is a precipitation or high winds.
