I’m conscious of the fact that as we approach new contract time, for players it can be a career defining moment. For us fans it’s about next season, for some players it’s about the rest of their lives. But facts of life come into play and RW, like many managers, has some tough decisions to make. The prospect of being unemployed come July 1st must be tough. So we know some players will go, some careers may come to an end. For some their careers may take off. I’m grateful to all the squad who have given us a successful season and overall an enjoyable one. Certainly better than I anticipated. For those that depart I wish them all the best in their future lives. Memories have been created. Well put dohnut. As to the close season comings and goings, a lot will I’m sure, depend on what sort of budget is available to the DoF and his team to go out and get the individuals Wellens has specified as targets. Like all fans I have my own short list of players who I would hope will remain with the club and those who - for various reasons - I think should move on. One of the persistent shortcomings of the club imho has been a seeming reluctance to take tough decisions when contract renewal time comes around. No one underestimates the difficulty involved but I’m sure Wellens has the ruthless streak that’s required to disregard sentiment and put the team first. With the sort of funds that are likely to be available to him he has little option if we’re to compete for the top 7 next season.

And I also have to wonder if RW will still be here come the start of next season ?

My best guess would be yes but I’m sure RW will be on the radar of several clubs as as a potential new boss so you never know.👍

I don't think RW expects Happe to be with us next year. Archibald is unlikely to be fit before December, and with that sort of injury, can he be expected to recover at all? No reason at all why Archibald should not recover from having an ACL knee operation, plenty of sportsmen and women break the ACL and come back to regain their careers after the operation and rehab. Much depends on how much of the knee was injured, other ligaments, cartilage etc. A recent example is England ladies Captain, Leah Williamsony, had ACL operation a year ago and now back playing for her club side Arsenal and she played the full game for England last night. Also.......''An ACL injury early in Alan Shearer's career didn't stop him becoming a Premier League great or impede his incredible goal-scoring knack. He ruptured his right ACL in his first season with Blackburn Rovers in 1992 and returned a year later to score 31 goals. The next season he improved again, and his 34 goals led Blackburn to the Premier League title. His career tally of 260 goals makes him the top scorer in Premier League history, 52 ahead of Wayne Rooney in second.
The dreaded ACL curse and icons who've overcome it. sport.optus.com.au/news/feature/os14806/the-dreaded-acl-curse-and-icons-who-have-overcome-itCoxy was a really good player for us but was never the same player after his knee injury . Anyway the point asked was do we need 3 left wingers , probably not.

I have a suspicion that Theo won't be offered a new deal. With such a tight budget, I doubt the club can afford the luxury of having a player on the books that will not only be out for the rest of this calendar year, but doesn't know how the injury will affect his ability once he returns.

I'm pretty sure the club have said they will do right by Theo (whatever that may mean). I doubt we'll renew his contract as such, but I imagine we'll hold the door open once he's fit again. Theo is presumably covered by insurance for this eventuality.

I really hope we see Theo in an O's shirt again. He ran and worked his socks off for us in every game he played and that is what got him injured in the first place. I feel sure the club will do the right thing by him, he deserves it.

I think we will do the right thing by the player and I also believe that the insurance will be picking up the tab.

I doubt our club will just cut him loose. That would be cruel at this point in his career with us
