Very sad news at his loss at the age of only 72. Great centre half with a big heart and a great shot (ask Chelsea in our 1972 cup run). RIP Phil

Back in 77 the club did a photo day and I had my photo taken with the players and I was sitting next to Phil Hoadley, still remember it to this day in my O’s kit and football boots! A good player for our club.
RIP and my condolences to his family.

Very sad news indeed, following hard on the heels on the loss of his teammate Peter Bennett last month. Phil was a terrific defender who moved from full back to centre half with ease and was one of numerous players who George Petchey brought to the O’s from Crystal Palace. As said above, he also had a tremendous shot on him. RIP Phil.

A great man marker,he'd follow his forward everywhere. Tremendous partnership with Tom walley,a watertight defence Kept us in the old div 2 when our attack was woeful mid 70s Sad especially so soon after peter Bennett

I can't believe it, My favourite defender, last spoke to him in the Coach & Horses pub celebrating with supporters getting back into the league, absolutely shocked he was younger than me, The club should organize a tribute to both him "Lez Bennet and Cyril Lea, So sad my thoughts go out to his family, So so sad

I was in the west when he scored against Bonetti. My Dad turned to me and said, ‘well at least we’ve got something to cheer about’. We couldn’t imagine what was to follow. Spoke with Chopper Harris around 15/20 years back and when I said I was an O’s fan, he said Phil Hoadley, one of the best goals scored against his team. RIP and commiserations to his family.
