Decent write up on the club website and in the matchday programme about Peter Bennet I watched Peter right from the start on his Os debut, such a good deal getting Peter as a make-weight player in the deal when Tommy Taylor went to West Ham, we got a good transfer fee for Tommy plus Peter Bennet in return. He was so unlucky with injuries but a skillful and versatile player who always gave his best. One of my favourite players of that era along with Peter Allen and many others and don't forget Dennis Rofe !!

Some say we got the better part of the deal.I saw a different video and commentary of the famous Chelsea cup match.A better quality colour picture and it was good to see Peter Allen and Peter Bennet in the same shot.Micky Bullock gave the pass that Phil Hoadley scored from.Micky played a great part in that match,For all of us who were there it has probably been our biggest boast, though other matches have had more important consequences. Tom Wally was so good in that game as well.

I believe Gordon Riddick also made his Os debut. Much better outcome than our previous home meeting with the Owls when Sid Bishop was injured by that crook Layne

Much better outcome than our previous home meeting with the Owls when Sid Bishop was injured by that crook Layne I also went to that match where Sid got crocked by David ''Bronco'' Layne. He was one of my early Os heroes and he never seemed the same player after that injury, dont know what Sid's injury actually was, in those days medical care for footballers was nowhere as good as it is nowadays. Os were on a good run up to that game, they had won 3 home games in a row, beat West Ham 2-0, then beat the mighty Manchester United 1-0 and the eventual league winners Everton 3-0, wow looked like we were settling down for a good first season in Division One. Disaster struck in that game against Wednesday, No substitutes in those days and the Os got kicked off the park, it was a horrible game with Os losing 4-2 and after that game we never recovered and ended up getting relegated.

Club put out statement Re Phil Hoadley yet not a peep out of them Re " Les Bennet" why. There was indeed a statement issued by the club following the sad news about Peter Bennett. I still can’t quite work out why there wasn’t a minutes silence ( or applause nowadays) to commemorate both him and Mal Lucas who died a few days previous.

Decent write up on the club website and in the matchday programme about Peter Bennet where the hell was I looking then, saw nothing It's easy to miss these things but the club did issue statements at the time. As others have said it is a bit surprising we didn't do a minutes applause/silence for both Peter Bennet and Mal Lucas, both great servants to the O's.

Thank you everyone, cleared up the mess in my mind, as said Peter was an unsung hero and like others on here watched him from day one, couldn't understand how Wet Sham let him go, however their loss was are gain. RIP "Les"
