Come across an American Comedian James Gregory, now sadly gone. This guy knows how to tell a story in what I think is a hugely funny way. His delivery is a master class. A tad disrespectful but rarely uses bad language, he sees life in a unique way. Dubbed America’s best comedian, though of course that is subjective, his style is one I really enjoy.

For sure comedy is a personal thing. I enjoy comedians that don’t rely on swearing to get a laugh, have a disjointed view on life and don’t follow the woke agenda. Ricky Gervais makes me laugh too. Liked Jack Dee
Don’t have much time for the two who did the BAFTA awards
So who makes you guys laugh ?

Cannot think of any of todays lot,but I still have many long laughs and love humour.Reading the Satyricon by Petronius made me laugh out loud as did some of One flew over the cuckoos nest. The book version that is,written in the sixties.Satire makes me laugh often.Another book was The horse is dead. Videos of old comedy shows make me laugh,as do audio/videos of ISIHAC,to name but one.As I am thinking The Blues Brothers made me laugh out loud.

Stand up comedians rarely make me laugh but I like comedy series and films, mainly the old ones. for instance Fawlty Towers, most of the carry on films, comedy shows with Kenny Williams in, The Two Ronnies etc.

I like soap-box style comedy where there's a message with well thought-through supporting points done in a humorous way. Jim Jefferies, Ricky Gervaise, the late George Carlin are top exponents of the art.

George Carlin was funny, but I think many of his ideas are timeless. His act could be serious, even desperately so, while sarcastic and very funny too. His own biggest laugh to himself may have come from his “Seven dirty words you can’t say on television” being the basis of a legal battle that went all the way to the US Supreme Court. The decision was so close (5-4) that the Federal authorities quietly changed their views. A comedian doing that kind of damage to authority is a rare thing.

Carlin was a supreme after-dinner speaker, he dropped his rough edge for those events and revealed a smooth and yet biting humour.
This is an example of an address he gave to the US National Press Club. It takes a while to get going but your patience will be well rewarded. His take down of "politicians language" is sheer quality.

I was privileged to see Mike Reid do a stand up. Wasn’t expecting much, but it was the funniest 2hrs I’ve ever experienced. I laughed so much my jaw ached.

Not too sure I appreciated the Q and A section, no background knowledge of the 7 words etc. Will research this for sure. 👍 PS. Now I know the words and story
