I saw a video last night on you tube which told of the stone that put the stone in Leytonstone. It is still there after hundreds of years. As you come off the Green Man roundabout and go towards Chigwell or South Woodford, where the road forks for either direction is where the stone and obelisk above is situated.I must have passed that monument thousands of times and did not know until last night that it even existed. So much about our own areas history we do not know until enlightened.Hard to think of Leyton and Leytonstone as villages. The Highway man Dick Turpin frequented the Green Man pub before he dashed away after his crimes.

I didnt know this and must have cycled past it for years when I worked on Leytonstone High Road. I will seek it out. Thanks so much for sharing.
