That was a sad day. Still a very young lad and walking to the supporters club with my dad and his mates I saw grown men crying.

Remember it well but it seemed inevitable to me so that removed some of the pain.

It was indeed redshank. Two excellent managers during the period and a host of wonderful players.

Some that never get mentioned,a real diamond was Ian Bowyer, how on earth did we get him to sign for us.Looked the part from game one.How we could do with a Micky Bullock now,he was an excellent player on those awful pitches.

Bowyer came long before the “ little Leyton Orient” mantra had been created I guess. Let’s face it, we signed some relatively “ big name “ players back then.👍

I recall bowyer going one on one with blond Fulham keeper mellor,he produced a lovely chip over him, only for it to bounce twice on our rock hard easter dustbowl and clear the crossbar. Bullock was good in the air for 5ft 10, guess he had superb timing when to jump and beat the six footers.

Those who were there will never forget Ian Bowyers opener against Leicester City in that famous FA cup game. Same with the Micky Bullock equaliser against Chelsea that drew us level.
