Yes back in the day the London sides in all Divisions had one or two Scots in their side. They would add a bit of bite in the game and gee up team mates who liked to go into hiding during a game. As a side note was watching Michael Portillio last night in his series on Great British train journeys. He was taking a Scots rail around the East Coast via Aberdeen. One stop off discussed the demise of William Wallace. They went into the history of this chap and how against overwhelming odds stood up to the English. Once he was captured he was taken to London and killed. I am now aware where the term hang drawn and quartered comes from. This brutal death was administerd to William Wallace. His entrails were removed and burnt. |
