Getting whacked with some hefty car and home insurance bills despite going on comparison websites.I have been missing because of a bereavement.I will let it go this year but next year will do a lot of research before I commit. Also after the election I will see my MP,shouty Wes,but I suppose he will be too busy and precious to see his constituents as he will be a minister,so a deputy will have to do. The last time I saw my MP about a banking problem, within a week all was resolved and I was the winner.

I don't know if we still do but we used to have a Minister of Consumer affairs who had some sort of control of these rip offs.

All insurance is a rip off - until you need to use it.
I had a major leak, the cost of the fix and redecoration must have been huge. Yet it was handled very well and amazingly my premiums didn’t go up as a result. Willing to bet the work carried out was more than all past premiums combined.
On the other hand our car premiums continue to increase despite no claims. I think they go up when you reach 75 but they won’t say. I now as a matter of course phone up and challenge every increase I’d quite often get a reduction. They try it on. But even so my car’s premiums are not excessive when you consider potential costs involved.
But insurance companies now have the problem of crooks. Few years ago a lady caught my car in a car park. No drama, all sorted, small bill. But for the next 15 months I was besieged by companies telling me to claim for personal injuries and whiplash. No doctors needed, insurance companies just pay, not worth fighting. That I was not in the car made no difference, claim anyway. Ambulance chasing crooks that get rich and put up every persons insurance cost. I wonder what percentage of my premiums cover fraud of one sort or another. False claims are commonplace..
So whilst insurance companies profit, so do the myriad of crooks who rip off insurance companies. We also pay for their crimes. Assholes.

So true,I have a relative who works on these issues.I have insurance up to my ears covering various things. One never knows when you will need them, but so far I am doing all the paying and as I can no longer earn money the coffers are looking vey thin.

A copper I spoke to recently as I was moaning about the cost of my daughters first insurance and he said of the youngsters we stop 70-75% of them are not insured. If that is true, then one we have a massive problem and two I'm sure a hefty premium will be added to law abiding car drivers to cover their inevitable losses.

Pay for the feckless as usual.Thinking seriously getting rid of my car and using cabs on the odd occasion.About £5000 a year to own a car and with my bus and train pass would be well in pocket. The trouble is those few times a year when a car is a must.

Those of us who play the game fund those that just cheat - criminals in my opinion. My Granddaughter just passed her test and is looking at insurance. Currently as a provisional on her mother’s insurance I dread to think what the cost will be when she gets it in her own name.

I couldn't be without a car. I need to carry 12/14 footballs, bibs, cones, ladders, first aid kit, spare pads, boots and kit. You can't take that on a bus or train! Plus you would struggle to get to grounds with public transport.
I also play cricket, which was 45 mins drive in the car yesterday to get to the ground in Cobham. Not getting there by bus either!
But, I do take a train and two tubes to get to work and I wouldn't drive in ever!
My life is too hectic to rely on buses and trains to live my life. I went on a bus last year after seeing Peter Kay at the O2 and I was peeed but I said to my wife we are bus w*****s! (Inbetweeners reference) I had not be on a bus for about 20 years!

Took a bus from Brent Cross to Marble Arch station on the upper deck,a great view of London and its many wonderful places seen from the top deck of a bus, even went past Lord's.The usual gathering at the zebra crossing outside Abbey Road studios. Would be good if the Green Line busses were still running.I don't envy tradesman theses days, all those reasons to be fined must make driving hell at times. It got a lot worse before I retired and do not miss that one little bit.It is a wonder there is still free parking around our stadium, but I suppose that will end soon.

So many expensive cars now being stolen to order, many get taken apart and various parts sold, many get sold abroad. Not safe to even park your car on your own houses drive. Also stolen are Catalytic converters which are devices fitted to vehicle exhausts to reduce the amount of dangerous gases emitted. They are often targeted by thieves as they contain valuable metals and can be removed in less than a minute. Catalytic converter theft most frequently occurs in car parks, but they can happen anywhere.
