Some of this makes you realise how rubbish our window has been, & how weak we are compared to other clubs in our division. When you compare Os spending on players to the times of years ago when we paid 6 figure fees for players like in 1989 Centre Back Paull Beesley, 250K from Wigan and in 1979 Goalkeeper Mervyn Day 100k from West Ham. Nowadays its mainly out of contract players, free transfers and on loan players. So when you take that into consideration, its a minor miracle that we have gone from the National League to Division 1 in such a short space of time !! |

In fairness den, I guess a lot of that is now down to freedom of contract and the astronomical wage demands of even mediocre players which were not really a factor back in the 80’s. |

It's not really Den when we've had the calibre of Justin and Richie. We've been lucky in that respect.
Richie is capable of getting us out of this division, but needs further quality to do it. You may have saw with your own eyes the difference between ours and their bench at the weekend. We lack that depth and we lack that quality and until it arrives we will be also runs. It will take time to get there.

As to Richie or any other manager getting Os out of this division, well for myself I shall be really surprised if it did happen with the current players and the budget we have at our disposal and if we did manage to scrape up into the Championship, with our current stadium and attendances, well what a struggle to survive that would be. For the time being, I see it as a success to stay in this division and see if things change for the better in the future.

We are a League 1 and FA cup third round club,anything else is a bonus.We can be capable of a play off place as maximum,if that happens then The Championship is possible.
