Wouldn’t surprise me if we went in hard for El Miz, but have probably been outbid by Oxford. Until you know what the outcome is, we’re left hanging.

I'm as frustrated as most people with what seems to be slow transfer activity but as i mentioned before there's a pecking order even in league one.I once applied for an internal job at a local government i was working for years ago and didn't get it i cheekily asked the boss who interviewed me why did you give the job to him he'll only be here for six months before he moves on.To which he replied better to have a good man for six months than a bad one for six years.I laughed and shook his hand. All I'm saying is sometimes it's worth waiting for the right players.Up the O's

If you can believe Transfermkt there's plenty of produce waiting to be picked that free issue the only downside is the players agent wants a slice of the pie.🥧

It’s possible too of course that we might have met Ipswich’s valuation but the wages on offer and the lure of Championship football with Oxford might prove the decisive factor? Hopefully the outcome will be known soon , one way or the other and end the uncertainty. www.eadt.co.uk/sport/24437399.ipswich-town-idris-el-mizouni-set-join-oxford-united/

We all want new players as it gives us a buzz and gets us supporters one step closer to the big day of a new season. Ideally they'd all have been on board already however, we live in reality and not fantasy.
As long as Richie gets what he or who he wants then let the man do his magic once more. He is key here and no one else really, he's the most important person in the club. As long as he's driving the bus, I'm paying my fare and am along for the ride. I've enjoyed the last 6 years and I'm gonna enjoy this next one too as I've faith in the manager and his team to deliver.

We should have signed every player mentioned on this thread, had a bigger squad than any other team. But then again, some would still want more. Don't think that is a fair observation at all. Issues arise when the club set expectations about players and don’t meet them. Sometimes it’s best to say nothing. I think you hit the nail on the head dohnut. NT setting hares running at the AGM last month by essentially putting a “2 or 3 week” timeframe on “ exciting “ signings is a classic example. It puts Ling in a bind from the outset and creates expectations that often can’t be achieved.

I think we are punching above our weight in comparison to the sides coming down from the Championship and some of the League 1 sides that have accumulated wealth by selling rising stars. What I have seen in the National league transfer activity is Div1 and Championship sides taking a punt on players hoping they come good.

I've noticed that too. Every time someone posts about a competitor signing 4, 5, 6 new players already I look those players up. They're mostly punts from lower leagues none of us would be that excited about. We'll end up doing mostly the same probably. Some'll work out and some won't.

Not at all. If the club said we want 1 player by end August, that’s fine. Their club, their money, their plans. But I’m sure you really do understand the point I was making. Not complex. It’s about listening to what ‘the club’ say. You know that same as me. They quoted numbers, not me. Both RW and NT have spoken about timing and preparation not me. Which is why I said sometimes is best not to say anything. It’s about setting expectations. And let’s face it, we all knew the act quicker stuff was never going to happen. But players will come in of course. And it is a reasonable observation that as of today with two out and three in we are not in an improving situation just yet. I’d argue we are weaker than a few weeks ago. So of course players will come in. I think this is too simplistic. Its simply a case of what they want versus what they are able to achieve. You cant force someone to sign. Our budget dictates that each signing has to fill a hole and that signing often will help dictate the next signing. Stating 4/6 is a statement of intended ambition not a standard by which to damn them. If they said nothing, as you suggest, then you would be decrying their lack of ambition / focus / coffee. Maybe lay off them a bit, eh? I have this strange habit of listening. I listen to club managers and Directors. If you are suggesting I treat what they say as nonsense, a sales pitch or stringing fans along, fair enough. But I don’t. They are open about not being able to compete with others, in fact they are very open and honest about things which deserves respect. So when they say how many players they want, the importance of being quicker and especially how important pre-season is then I believe them. Why wouldn’t I? They say these things being fully aware of budgets and being expert in the markets in which they operate. They are setting their own targets and they are choosing how to go public on them. They choose the words they use. They are intelligent people, they know the importance placed on what they say and how to say it. As for laying off, give it a rest. I have been consistent in my belief players will come in and in time for Spain at the latest. They have too. I have not wavered from that because it will happen, it has to, but have always believed the call for being quicker would not happen.

Jamie Lindsey, decent midfielder by the looks of his pedigree, joins Bristol Rovers.

Scott Arfield joining Bolton from Charlotte FC of MLS today. I know this player well, and he has had a strong career as many of you may know. He will turn 36 in November. He’s being brought in to help on and off the pitch according to the Bolton announcement, so probably a Darren Pratley type role. He was just ok for Charlotte.

Burton Albion continue their transfer spree by signing Jack Hazlehurst from Chorley FC for an undisclosed fee.
