Remember what Wimbledon did in the crazy gang era
They performed way above their budget
I think the budget and wages is not the prime way of anticipating performance or league position.

Remember what Wimbledon did in the crazy gang era They performed way above their budget I think the budget and wages is not the prime way of anticipating performance or league position. They did make the odd big signing. Fash cost them £100k plus for example, big money 40 years ago and likely more than some want to spend today. They got lucky with Denis Wise who ultimately went to Chelsea. Can’t remember too much about the crazy gang era, which of course didn’t last. Teams can of course do well on a small budget but it’s hard to sustain any degree of success without investment. In the end it’s teams with big budgets and deep pockets that succeed.

Maybe one of us can produce an excel spreadsheet of the lower divisions showing the final positions and the alledged budgets and see how the data stakes up I know immediately we have Bradford languishing in Div 2 for ages. We had Portsmouth in league I for a long time. Wrexham took ages to get out the conference. There are many examples anticipated to show maybe budget and achievements don’t align Additionally Wimbledon we’re so successful that other team managers tried to copy their route 1.

Here is League 1 for 2022-23. Apologies for the look of the table, I'm not great at presenting excel.
The figures are drawn from the year end accounts and are the latest available. Wages include all employees and not all clubs publish information on wages.
I am not an accountant! Happy to accept corrections or advice.
There is a clear divide in wages between the top 10 and the rest (Wycombe excluded).
