This morning I finished my long run in front of his statue. I noted he is this first black English National player and he died on July 15th, tomorrow. 8magune how proud he’d be to see Watkins, Saka, Toney, Palmer, Trent and Bellingham leading the lions with such class.

Do you know, the first black player to play for England at any level(school boy)was Benjamin Odeje..He went to my school(South East London Boys) in Creek Road Deptford. There were high hopes for him,but alas it all went pear shape.Out of the few boys who went pro from my school,Ben was the one who was “meant” to make it big time.

A mate of mine went to rokerby school in Stratford.they had two prospects One Vince hillare and one called Ossie tutu.(nickname Ossie one-one) Tutu was meant to be a star at orient better than hillare. But didn't happen.Hillare was the biz at palace due to Venables great coaching.
Both england schoolboys early 70s Tutu played with Cunningham in our south east counties team

Vince Hilaire was a delight to watch,so skillful. One movement I remember when he trapped the ball on his thigh let it roll to his foot and was away.
