Whatever Orient decide it will be subject to criticism - if a new goalkeeper is eventually brought in, they will only have to make one mistake and the forums will be moaning about why Vig was not still here
If Howes is given a decent run as a real opportunity he will be slaughtered after just one mistake.
I don't think LOFC can win either way - the quicker everyone fully acknowledges we do not pay Championship salaries and that simple restricts the selection of all players.
It great being ambitious but the sums the Championships clubs lose is insane and anyone that has saved capital will have the basic common sense not to be part of that. If they were not commercial astute they would be a different person and open to behaving with stupidity.

Vigs made mistakes and people on here moaned at him! His long kicking was at times suspect and again people moaned at him! It’s a position you can’t win in.
If I’m a centre forward and make a mistake I’ve got a midfield player to back me up. If I’m a midfielder and I make a mistake I’ve got a defender to back me up. If I’m a defender and I make a mistake I’ve a keeper to bail me out. If I’m a keeper and make a mistake it usually ends up a goal as I’ve got no one to back me up.
It’s the hardest position to play on pitch.

Exactly with Shilton at his prime But I would also in our position consider Howes for a decent number of consecutive games It’s just not fair not giving any player a reasonable opportunity |

There’s really one sure way to determine if Howes is the man for the job and that of course, is to give him a chance. It’s a potentially risky strategy though if it doesn’t come off and the club has waited too long to bring in a suitable replacement. Why would you take that risk? If you wanted to go that way you would loan him out to a League Two club and let him prove it at a level lower. I think that a keeper is the one position we can wait on, in terms of tactics and learning the clubs system all a keeper needs to master is distribution, there's plenty of quality keepers out there we will get one. Personally I wouldn’t take that risk but then again I’m not the manager. |
