Colchester Utd and the O’s are apparently close to agreement over the signing of Noah Chilvers 23 year old midfielder. Would surely signal the departure of Moncur?

Scored a blinder against us a couple of seasons back, if I recall.

Perhaps a straight swap?

Well if this does come off, we’ll have a pretty young midfield, Pratley aside. What did Hanson say, ‘you never win anything with kids’ 😉

Moncs should have gone in January IMO...lovely guy but after what I saw at Hearts he has to go. If we are close to agreeing an agreement as you say then it would be great.

If this information on Wikipedia is up to date, Chivers could well be out of contract so being as he is under 24 years old, perhaps Colchester have offered him a new contract and if Os do sign him, then perhaps similar to Ruel to Bristol Rovers deal, Os would have to pay a compensation fee to Colchester Utd ?
Chilvers scored his first professional goal for Colchester on 26 September 2020 during their 1–1 draw at Barrow......''He then signed a new three-year contract on 5 October to keep him with the club until summer 2023''

He came through their academy so if we're agreeing anything with them it can only be compensation. I'd be very interested to know whether it's possible to offer a player as compensation. I don't see why not. Anyone know?

You have to reach an agreement so why not? As long as the two clubs agree on a deal I don't see why you can't swap one for another.

I think that is definitely allowed.
Just another part of the deal like sell on clauses and appearances and all that stuff.

Not a bad idea dubious but l guess there would be a monetary value assigned both to the compo and the player offered. I don't know who would do the assigning or if there are taxes involved.

Interesting as to how a swap deal would work out being as Moncur is only contracted to Os till the end of this season and reckon we would still have to pay a fair bit towards Moncur's wages for this season. I suppose if a deal is ever done, all the financial details will be a well kept secret !

According to Transfermarkt, Chilvers is worth €375k to Moncs' €325k.
According to Salarysport, Chilvers is on £900 a week to Moncs' £4200. No way are Colchester paying that. That'd make him their highest earner by at least a grand.
I'm guessing Moncs would probably agree to a bit of a salary cut for a longer contract. Then we'd likely agree to pay a chunk of that wage for the year left on his contract.
I presume we'd be paying this kid in the region of about 2 grand a week, plus another 2 grand for a year on Moncs' wages.
I'd be very curious about the details if this happens.

There are National league teams paying what's on table at the O's.
