Well this is fun 😞. Every day is above 30°C but it seems I am to be denied a cold beer or three. Anyone have a miracle cure?

Well this is fun 😞. Every day is above 30°C but it seems I am to be denied a cold beer or three. Anyone have a miracle cure? I had it in my right foot, big toe joint about two years ago. I thought it was a whack, but alas it wasn't. I didn't bother the doctor, looked up what to do, drank plenty of water as it helps to break down the crystals, cut out tomatoes, seafood and red meat. I iced the joint several times a day, tried to keep weight off the area as much as possible and finally my mate gave me some colchicine tablets as he continually gets gout and all those things worked and I've never had it since. Hope this helps.

Not a cure but alcohol free Guinness is a great substitute for the real thing. Dark beer and hot weather don’t always go but some decent light beers are around. Don’t know if these reduce the risk of gout but a pleasant way to enjoy a drink without the alcohol content. Pretty painful isn’t it. Thought I had it but was just an arthritic toe and at times is uncomfortable enough.

Cheers guys. Each year sees yet more small pleasures taken away 😕 Sorry to say, there are no miracle cures !! I got gout for the first time around 6 years ago after getting dehydrated due to working too hard when gardening in a heat wave.Plenty of good advice on here especially to drink plenty of water, try to elevate the foot when you have a gout attack. I find ibuprofen pain killers help with the pain, lose weight and cut out alcohol and seafood and cut down on it all once the gout goes away, part of getting older afraid to say. When I got it for the first time it was like a bolt out of the blue and hurt like hell, rarely get any problems now and I take no medication for it other than drinking plenty of water if I do feel a twinge coming on.

I feel for you, i've been getting gout since my mid 20's. Sea food is my trigger, which is a right sod as i love sea food.
I have found that loads of water and cherry capsules help

When I asked the GP for more colchicine tablets he was reluctant to prescribe them. Currently thinking is they may damage the joint. Instead I got allopurinol which I take daily. colchicine is a bulb that you can buy for your garden. Known as naked ladies as the leaves come up in the spring and flowers later in the year without leaves. Basically a large crocus. Percy Thrower lesson now over.

One of the things I don't have in the feet or anywhere else.So many have it now, only saw it in comics with the giant bandage on the foot.I did once read that the rush of air when a door opens would bring great pain to the gout area.

Colchasine will cure it in a day or two, but do not overdose, it’s so strong an overdose is life threatening. There is no antidote.

I'm quite shocked at how prevalent this is, hoonoo?
I was working in high heat for a few weeks and enjoyed a couple of cold beers when l got home. We had paella a couple of days ago. I guess I've been asking for it (The gout, not the paella).

I guess I've been asking for it (The gout, not the paella). There you go, a combination of high heat, perhaps causing dehydration, cold beers, then the killer blow, paella. Well get to know these trigger points and try to avoid them.

Allopurinol life changing after doc prescribed it a few years ago. Feel for anyone with gout as so painful and you can't get anything over the counter to help. Going to miss moncs if he goes, there is a great player in there

I had gout for a number of years, but not had any for 5 or 6 years.
I've never been a drinker or seafood eater.
Very painful condition. I had it in my foot, and couldn't walk when it flared up

I was prescribed colchicine for a month by a gout specialist, although you're only supposed to take it for 5 days as technically it's a poison. Since then I haven't had more than a slight attack of gout for around 10 years, having suffered from it very badly up until then. My GP said that this is now an approved treatment. I still take allopurinol.

Sw o , I can’t believe you took it for a month . It is a very dangerous drug and it should never be prescribed longer than 5 days. It’s a wonder you are still here to tell the tale.Colchicine will cure in a couple of days and if it’s reoccurring then daily allapurinal pills will keep it at bay I eat a lot of seafood inc stacks of smoke salmon and consume a fair bit of red wine , just about the worse offenders but the allapurinal pills seem to be working.
