Once upon a time, the O’s were not the only team in E10 and before I was allowed to go over to Brisbane Road with the ‘bigger boys’ (it was the early 1980’s and my non-football fan parents were concerned about hooliganism) I cut my teeth on Leyton Wingate FC who played at the now abandoned Hare & Hounds stadium on Lea Bridge Road. I started going with my Grandad in the 80/81 season (the year they won the Athenian League and were unbeaten) and carried on with occasional visits up till around 1990. I recall getting on a coach with my dear old Grandad and travelling to Swansea’s Vetch Field to watch them get beat in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ of the FA Cup in 1985 (2-0).. Had some great days over there with some real old characters in the team… Delroy Rhoden, Steve Hamberger, Craig Tucker, Andy Mavin…Attendances were not big and averaged around a hundred usually, but I recall a gate of near 500 for derby with Leytonstone Ilford in 1987….. You could sometimes hear the roar of the Brisbane Rd crowd when the O’s scored drift in over the allotments….. Great days. Just stumbled upon this video on YouTube – a lad exploring the abandoned stadium and the memories came flooding back. I was back in UK last year and had a wander over to the ground but couldn’t get in sadly. Did anyone else on this forum ever go cheer on ‘the Blues’? link

The link you posted just brings you back to this page. I never watched a game at the H&H but l did play in a cup final there (early 1970s) in the London & Essex league.

You probably saw the group i stood with behind the goal Leyton were kicking towards, names I recall are Gary, Charlie and Ade. Right old mix of characters with great sense of humour, always good banter with the visiting keepers. One exception was the Uxbridge keeper, nasty bastard who got very agitated and threatening on more than one occasion Used to go to a fair few midweek away games too, a couple were afternoon kick offs at clubs that didn't have lights. Epsom and Ewell was one of those, hell of a lengthways slope too on their pitch. Last game of the unbeaten season was at Cheshunt, came back from holiday morning of that game to go. Good times at the H and H, little clubhouse behind the main stand was always a very friendly place too.

I went once with my cousin and a couple of his friends in about 1996. We stood just inside the entrance bit and watched a rather scrappy game. We had a couple of pints in the Hare and Hounds afterwards. I'm glad to say that pub seems to be doing reasonably well still.

Via amalgamations, they were, the new owners of that time wanted the name and history back, they went to court to get it and surprisingly won. Then Leyton Pennant changed its name and had to drop the leyton part.
Ita well worth a read.
