Ruel aside, how come we never seem to produce decent forwards? We regularly produce defenders and midfielders but that's it. Is it because our decent forward prospects are snapped up by bigger clubs as they develop?

Bigger eyes looking for striker prospects when they are 5 years old.We have had a few in recent years but they move on very quickly.Parental ambition has to be considered as well.We do well enough I think and many of our players have gone on to wonderful careers.

We simply do not have the cash to develop these players enough to make them regular first teamers . Sure the bigger clubs snap these young players up if they look like they could make it and we are left with the youth that are ok but we have no time to develop them as we have to settle for ready made players .

Happe? Sweeney? Obiero? We did have a promising forward but we had to sell him to Middlesbrough - forgotten his name

I think the club let him go on loan to Welling after Jackett left and subsequently he moved on to Middlesbrough last summer. Last I heard he was loaned out by them to Dagenham.👍

The nearest we’ve got to that in recent times was Moses odubago but we need 3 of those coming through at the same time .

Laurie went far too cheap, but yes great players. We paid a few bob for players coming in,I don't think we pay that much now,but one never knows what we do pay for a player now.

Think we panicked selling Laurie Injuries, playing Bennett as a centre forward and hoadley crocked. Mayo and glover plus 100k not too bad But who can forget being 6nil down half time at Fulham.happy days

Correct me if I am wrong but during our golden era of home grown youngsters we recruited them from a local club called Beaumont but this ended when we refused their request for payment for their kit ect. I seem to recall that they then linked with millwall.

Is it because our decent forward prospects are snapped up by bigger clubs as they develop? In addition to Perkins and Nkrumah, we had Josh Koroma of course. Aaron Rowe now at Gillingham and Malik Mothersille was with us before going to Chelsea youth and now at Peterborough. He looks a prospect. Sam Dalby and Tristan Abrahams off top of my head but neither really kicked on after leaving us
