John Jackson was our best ever keeper, but Mervyn day was among the worse keepers ever to play for the orient , that said he wasn’t as bad as yesterdays. He literally gifted them 2 goals and the number of times he fumbled the ball could have been more. Jackson was indeed our best ever goalkeeper but i remember him literally throwing the ball into his own net against hull city i believe in the final game of theseason when we needed a draw to stay up.Lets give the new boy s few games before totally writing him off I think you are wrong there, Mujtahido, although our memories play us tricks. I recall him visibly trembling like a leaf in that game as he caught a slow ball with no one within yards of him, and then sheepishly smiling to the crowd.

What season was that and did we get the draw to stay up ?

Surely to God having taken us so long to bring in a keeper we could have done better! Panic signing. By all accounts he'd been on our radar since last season, came highly recommended, and we were told we were crossing the t's and dotting the i's on a keeper two weeks before he was announced. Some here, you included, didn't think we even needed to sign a keeper. So how was this a panic signing? Never said we didn’t need a keeper, just it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t, then again wouldn’t surprise me if we did. Did wonder if Howes would get a shot, finances and all that. Panic signings don’t have to be last minute, just last choice of who is left available.

Panic signings don’t have to be last minute, Hence offering multiple reasons to suggest he isn't one 🙄

The two worse keepers I’ve ever seen at the Os were,David Cass and Rhys Wilmot.Just pray Hemming doesn’t fall into their category

Too early to tell. One bad game dont make a bad keeper and I’m sure he wants to demonstrate just that as the season progresses. We all do.

I am not totally writing him off, just commenting on what I saw yesterday. He may turn out to be brilliant but if that’s so then he has to learn how to catch a simple ball. He dropped 3 simple catches , one of which led to a goal, but also his overall display was shocking .

Watford o, he was indeed a good keeper during his early days at west ham, but west ham realized he had gone to pot and unloaded him to us. I can recall him just standing there during a one on one and literally letting the forward have a free shot. When I’ve time I will try to look up the amount of goals he conceded while with us as I can recall a whole series of heavy defeats.

He was literally a sixes and sevens. It was crazy signing day.Jacko was 38 but on top form.it was obvious he would be off and off he went to Millwall.

I must admit that I was not going to the Os that much during the seasons Day was in goal, due to many other things going on in my life, pressure of work, just got married etc. Perhaps I was lucky that the matches I did go to, he was ok. The team were not playing well at that time and later on Day did well in his career especially at Leeds United.
