Understand that but to me it seems to be divisive. If budgets allow of course talk of potential incoming. If budgets don’t, then stop going on about new players. We all understand just how much the owners contribute and I doubt any of us would complain if we have maxed out. But such discussions between RW, ML and the board should be sorted privately. The public statements reflect a united view. Forde back on a years loan would be good. My main worry is same as most on here, just hope the goalkeeping situation sorts itself out quickly, more than ever, we need someone between the sticks who can be relied upon to be a good shot stopper and deal well with crosses coming into the box etc. Redding wouldn't have got to be a professional GK without being exceptional all along his development/journey whatever. His fcuk ups on all three goals are mental not technical. They may look like he can't catch a ball but he wouldn't be a GK if he couldn't do that by now.

Of the players mentioned: Humphrys appears so highly rated as to be well beyond our means. Mubama refused a new contract at West Ham so I doubt will opt for us. Potts did well with Wycombe so any new loan would likely be the Championship. Failing a medical at Blackpool is not a recommendation although we've certainly gone down that route before. I imagine the Shaq Forde avenue has been thoroughly explored. Discussions about Sweeney put me in mind of earlier bitter arguments about Ling, Caprice and other fullbacks. Expect at least one arrival very soon, especially if we lose at Charlton ... Love the optimism but just outlining what's still out there for us around our unknown (but perceived to be beggar boy) budget.

Very comprehensive list of “ possibles” although I must admit some of whom I’d never heard of! Like you I think LB is a weak spot and needs to be strengthened so the loan option of Boyes or Dodgson seems viable. Forde did well last season but not sure he is the player best suited to meet our requirements just now. I concur with Ramrod that the Stephen Humphreys option - whilst a good one - is probably beyond our reach given the restrictions on budget that are in place. We are shopping at the lower end of the market to improve on what we already have, evident through who our trialists were during pre season. We trialled Djavan Anderson and Matt Penney who were released in the summer of 2023 and hadn't found a club since. Sam Hutchinson is 34 and had a solid but unspectacular injury ridden career Hadn’t heard about or even of Anderson tbh. Penney I knew about and thought he might he been a decent alternative. Given we already have Pratley I was never sure what our real level of interest was in Hutchinson although, I admit, I always thought he was good player despite injuries. I think you’ve got it right with our “shopping habits” - very much at the “ popularly priced “ end of the scale presently.😬

Shaq Forde - Came on leaps and bounds left us polished. If he aint getting near watfords bench, then it's a win win for all on loan. Think wages would be an issue but solves that left footed right sided forward wish. Reportedly on €650 a week. Would be a bargain at twice that. The only foreseeable problem getting Shaq back would be if a bigger L1 fish comes in for him. I also think we need a LB and someone who can provide cover on the attacking wings too would be ideal. Think Vale is above us tbh, but was also surprised to see him at Bristol so who knows? Guy's on 26k a week though so even if Chels want a fraction of that paid then it ain't happening.

Strongrumours around today that we will sign Jamie Donley a forward /attacking midfielder from Spurs on loan. Has been sub on 3 occasions for their first team . Would be a great loan for the season. I understand Birmingham ,Oxford and Luton were interested but the Os are favourites to get him Also don’t rule out Shaq Forde who does not seem to be in Watfords plan judging by the fact he was not selected for both recent games

Good post lukeryan. I think Forde is the most realistic name you mention and I think he will be the next person through the door. Forde showed us he has an attitued problem at back end last season, when he realised we wern't gonna make playoffs, just went through the motions and slackend off to avoid injury

Are you speaking as a collective voice or do you actually mean it was your impression.? On what grounds did you come to your view?

I admit that l came to a similar view albeit via the streaming service and not live. I don't try to find a reason but Shaq did appear to slacken his pace and workload during the final weeks of last season. It was quite noticeable to me and it was confirmed by RW during an interview with Dulcet Dave when he described Shaq as being "knackered" and referenced his youth and how he (RW) had been required to over-use the player due to injuries to Graham and Archibald. I don't subscribe necessarily to the view about Shaq's attitude but he really did appear to be coasting to a surprising degree.

I thought Forde understandably started slowly, hit a purple patch around the turn of the year and tailed off noticeably towards the end of the season. Pretty much mirrored the team in general tbh.

He was simply shattered, it was his first outing in senior football at a high level and his body wasn’t able to cope with the demands placed on it. He was basically running on empty. He will learn from that experience and be better for it too. I observed what was happening at the time and called it out on here, but we didn’t have any other options to replace him with. His attitude looked good to me all season and on the final game he spent more time with fans than any other player, that tells you about the man as well. he is alright by me.

Where do you get the weekly wages from? 26k a week is ridiculous money Wages from Salarysport, so you can take them with a pinch of salt. However, both those numbers roughly correspond with what's given on Football Manager, which is pretty well informed on leagues higher up the pyramid (where a lot more financial information is made public). Do remember what club Harvey Vale is contracted to. Chelsea were paying Andreas Christensen 20k a week when he was 18 and that was 9 years ago.

Shaq Forde is on a lot more than £650 a week. RW said at the end of last season his wages at Watford would put in the top bracket of our top earners. Why would he be? He's still on the same post-relegation contract he signed at 17 having played all of 15 minutes for the senior team (at the end of a lost cause FA Cup game). He isn't valued particularly highly by any source I'm aware of and the highest level he'd played at prior to joining us was National League. Watford are not a club that spend much on wages outside of the first team. Don't forget we signed a comparable player from a Premier League team in Ollie O'Neill. I don't remember Richie's comments but are you sure he wasn't referring to what Shaq would want to move on a perm? That's a different story to what he's currently on, of course.
