The problem is redshank that RW has on more than one occasion said we need to move the ball forward quicker, not to be a backwards playing side. So the team don’t always play the way RW wants. We are all-too-often looking to go backwards. Sometimes the best option but not as plan A. It’s infuriating. Playing with fear someone said! Can understand that. Our style of play and that of many other teams is very different. And I don’t think it’s what RW wants. Not having that, the manager is in charge not the players. Sorry Red but you need to listen to RW post match interviews. He has commented more than once on this subject. I agree, he is in charge but once play starts the players do what the players do. Which is far too often play backwards or has Thor rightly says, take the easy option. It has been a theme of our play for some time. Without doubt switching play is a decent tactic, this involves going backwards, looking for an opening, patience. But we all too often take this to irritating extremes.

‘It's not fear in any way shape or form. The players are not scared to make a mistake, they just at times take the easier option, the safe option. We retain the ball and we look to play again’ The issue as I see it, and it seemed very clear to me against Birmingham is that the safe option isn’t just occasionally, it appears to be our default position. Keeping the ball is a pointless exercise if we don’t go on to, at least try, to do damage with it. The longer we simply play safe and try to retain possession, ironically, there is a greater likelihood of us eventually losing possession anyway. To my mind, there is a problem if our players want to play safe all the time. Yes there are occasions when that’s prudent but when it’s constant, it makes us weak and ripe for the picking. It reinforces my view that there is a fear of mistakes or lack of confidence in the team.

The team is not lacking confidence as we play we a certain swagger. One of the factors we lack is game nowse or experience, both come with time.
Now if you look at Donley he is looking to play forwards all the time, he has the brain to work that out. The younger players need to learn that, apply it and improve with it.
We are after 3 league games looking good, just need the keeper to step up to the plate and all will be fine.
