leytonorient.com/news/2024/august/30/richie-wellens-and-martin-ling-review-summer-2024-transfer-window/I wish the club wouldn't put stuff out like this. Sometimes I feel we give away too much. This video is basically saying, we can't compete this season, we're gonna tide things over, let our players develop for another year and hopefully cling on to our League One status. Which we could all see. The players we've actually signed permanently are fine but the loans have been a load of tosh just thrown out from Spurs or wherever. Squad fodder. I know it, you know it, Richie knows it, Ling knows it, Nigel knows it. Just squad padding. And if anyone decent is among them, we lose them anyway. It really doesn't provide the motivation for me to get off my arse and go to Shrewsbury or to Brisbane Road forthe rearranged Tuesday night game against Peterborough that'll be on Sky.

You can see why we can't compete financially though. Losing £3M a year? Who would want to invest in that as a business.

'a load of tosh just thrown out from Spurs'
I reckon that will be seen as a bit harsh...

Think the two spurs lads are fine. We no doubt have a very good relationship with spurs which will be very useful for the future But Perkins and DJ appear just squad padding out. Would've liked one decent striker back up instead of those two. But opinions aside, time to get behind what we have.

I tend to agree with you MungO. We all know that the club’s stated aim is to acquire young players, develop them and then sell them on. It’s as old as the hills and if done properly can work - especially if accompanied by some modest success on the field. The volume of young loanees we have seems to me in direct contradiction of that because the last part of the equation isn’t there as we can’t sell people on. As you say, it doesn’t help to enthuse the fans.

I think this is the worst transfer window in our recent history and one that will go down as the reason for our imminent decline, not just because of some of the dross we have brought in, but also because of some of the talent we have let go. In fact every single player that has left would walk into the team now, including Piggott!

On this basis we would have received a percentage of El Miz transfer. I am sure someone will confirm that this is the case.

Everyone will remember this window for the goalkeeping glitch but the bottom line is we have not replaced El Miz.

Which we could all see. This was precisely my understanding of the situation before the season started and I think it's an acceptable strategy in the circumstances, although not exactly exciting.
Unfortunately, we lost the first game, which has set the tone for the season. Things could easily have gone the other way. Hopefully we will manage to pull things round and push on next season as was the intention, but right now things are tough.

Everyone will remember this window for the goalkeeping glitch but the bottom line is we have not replaced El Miz. To be fair he came to us having not uprooted any trees in his previous loans. He found a place he could express himself, one he was comfortable in and a coaching team who were able to develop him further which he earnt him a move to the championship. I’m positive he would have stayed with us, but he’s probably on 10k a week, which we can’t afford. To replace him will be very difficult, but maybe with some work the player we got from Everton just maybe the one. We hope he is.
