I don’t know if it is, but it has to be up there if it’s not. Does anyone know if we’ve ever had a worse start to a season?

Under Russell, we draw 3 and lost 7 before a win. This was 11-12 season.
Paul Went, I think lost 6 and drew 1. 80/1 or 81/2?
Not sure about one of Taylors seasons when we were bottom at Xmas.

Second bottom to be precise. We went up to the bottom club Chester and stuffed them ( see what I did there) 5-1 I think and then went on to nearly make the play offs.

After four league games last season we had 1 pt, but we'd also crashed out of the league cup at the first hurdle and, like last night, lost our first pizza cup game. To Gillingham.
I'd also argue that we've played better against stronger sides in the league so far, discounting the capitulation against Shrewsbury. Probably our lowest point under Richie.
So solely in terms of league points return, maybe it's our worst start ever, but in the grander scheme of things I don't know if we look any worse than we did a year ago.
Bar the Shrews game, I think we've largely played quite well, but we make far too many individual errors and have been punished for them.
That makes me question whether the side is well drilled enough. Seems to be the case with a lot of the new signings in any case. I don't remember Richie taking this long to bed players in. Hopefully Warrington can be the Idris replacement we need him to be, but he hasn't been able to hit the ground running the way El Miz did, with an imperious performance the day after he was signed.

All good positive points here.

Big test of Richie’s character and abilities too. Players confidence will be low, so bit of a battle on his hands to turn things around.

I would go along with the ‘quite well’ description of our play. Shrewsbury apart, our performances have been OK. No better, no worse. But we are a mistake-laden team and not just the keepers. And of course last season was our first in league 1 for some time. Getting used to a higher level, an excuse no longer valid. Nor is the poor preseason preparation Richie rightly be blamed. It’s fair to look at this season differently than last and modify expectations accordingly after a very positive first season. well drilled is a good observation. The answer as I see it is no. But this is fixable, and hopefully by the Reading game because I don’t see upcoming fixtures getting any easier.

Fair, but in the first half of last season we also lost to a league two side and a national league side in the cups (as well as getting spanked in the league by a team that came up with us). And I think the fact that Thor has posted this after a cup loss suggests the question isn't limited to league performances.

Too many basic goalkeeper errors especially with defenders passing back to the keeper and the keeper trying to play out from the back. Something that is the fashion now and errors doing this at many levels. I am old school and to me ''if in doubt, put the ball out''
