As watfordo points out, these u21 teams win plenty of games in this cup. To add, these are teams that have usually been playing together since childhood in early-season games against teams still bedding in half a squad. So what they may lack in strength and experience, they make up for in drilling and coherence. Yes, we should still win these games on paper, but we should also use the opportunity to try things out, especially given the position we're currently in. Ultimately we lost again to individual errors, but should we not have given Howes a chance to show if he should start over Hemming in the league and Currie his debut in a low-stakes game?

Think you must've been watching a different interview to me. The interviewer said about the first goal being a mistake by the keeper Sam Howes and Richie says '' Well there was nothing we could do'' Really ? How about the keeper just doing the simple defending basics and putting the ball out into row Z instead of passing it out to an Arsenal player ?
So many goals conceded this season down to defenders, keepers etc giving the ball away to the opposition, when the defense is exposed, are we ever going to learn ?
He didn't say it wasn't a mistake though. In fact the question was prompted by him saying precisely that the two goals came from mistakes. He's simply adding that you can't prepare for individual gaffs on the field. Whatever you think about that, your initial statement was completely wrong.

Not disputing what you’re saying dub,but that under 21 team was filled 17,18 and 19 yr olds..that’s what griped me ..Surely a fully fledge league 1 first team shouldn’t be losing to them.. But if I’m wrong I’m wrong

Why do we keep talking of this tournament as unimportant. £20k for taking part. £10k per group stage win, so £30k up for grabs. £40k for the next round win then increasing the further you go.
Plus of course the chance to give players match time and the morale boost of a win. Not massive I know but it has its plus points. Certainly a win against Arsenal would give the whole squad a much needed boost ahead of the Reading game. Now we go there with a losing habit.
If we were doing better in the league I’d agree, not important. But in the context of our season to date, a win would be a most welcome outcome.
