We play at pace we are an excellent League 1 team, crabbing about at the back with the ball even with attacking play gives any defence time to get into their best defensive format. yet Richie didn't want to answer my question. Someone said he probably didn't want to be speaking against the players, I get that. But he says it himself in interviews about playing backwards instead of forwards for example. So you tell me what's the difference? Home truths Thor. He knows, you know, we all know. Good question, he just didn’t want to offer up an answer. Didn’t even duck it very well. I was really disappointed at his attempt to deal with a very reasonable and good question. His avoidance is the answer. If there was ever a case of not answering gives the real answer, that was it.

The real answer is probably that the players aren’t quite good enough to play at the pace that Richie would like, but he’s hardly going to say that is he? . To quote one example, a throw for us level with the opposition penalty area ends up being passed all the way back to our keeper. That is mindset. Watched Leeds/Sheff Utd last night and number of times the ball went backwards for SU made me realise we are not alone.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with going backwards, you retain possession, it allows players to move into new positions to receive the ball and hopefully allow the next set of passes to be forward ones. I think we play perfectly good football, I believe we would be even better if we played at a higher tempo which allows us to open up our opposition easier as we drag them away from where they want to be into areas they don’t want to be in. That creates space which in the right areas provides us with chances to shoot. Our goals for is not good enough right now, more chances must and you would hope equals more goals which gives us a greater opportunity to win games. We are not far from getting it right, and by that I mean wins, consistent wins.

Retaining possession, looking for gaps and then exploiting those are what makes the better teams winners. I sit amongst fans who get frustrated because we are not getting the ball forward quickly enough. Then they get frustrated if a forward pass goes astray. So players can't win. As Clough used to say, 'get the ball'. If you've got it the opposition can't score

Exactly, and then those fans will be moaning we are a long ball team who “just whack it forwards”. Like you say you just can’t win.
I do like where we are as a football team, I’d like to us move it quicker as when we do we are almost unplayable at our level. We badly need a centre forward, but then who doesn’t? That is the missing piece, like I say we are not far away from doing something.

The sideways and backwards stuff works better when we are away. When at home we must play faster and forward more. If we don't perhaps O's fans need to whistle loudly for the crabbing to stop.

Remember the times when we had Bonne, and ( when he at last got over his injury problem ) also Matt Harrold on the bench to throw up front. Not since those times have we had a decent centre forward at the club. So missing that sort of player since we got back into the football league.

Lastly also badly missed is the brilliant goal keeper Lawrence Vigouroux who left at the end of that season to join Burnley.

Backwards, sideways football happens everywhere. Even Southend tried it (badly) against Eastleigh and the precious few chances for Eastleigh arose from screw ups in that method.
Without doubt this type of play is absolutely the right thing sometimes. But, and for me it’s the big but, if it results in a positive and effective forward move some of the time, great. Move the ball around, create an opening, then attack. Good stuff. Skilful play, exciting. Cat and mouse, play around, pounce. Love it.
But we damn well don’t. STEP 1. We dick around, improving possession stats (dominating the ball 🤔🤔) then either of two things happen, a punt upfield mostly mopped up by the defence or giving them a throw on, give them the ball to attack us. Hopefully slowed down by our high press. Or we plod forward slowly, get nowhere, then go backwards again, Return to STEP 1.
Tedious beyond belief. Boring in the extreme and as we are 5th from bottom, not very effective in getting points, the proof of the pudding is the league table. But we can continue with the same tactics and hope for better results. Hope not, method not results. Tedious to watch and my guess tedious to play. Maybe ok in league 2 but hello, we’ve moved up and the opposition is better.
We need to evolve.

Not according to RW on the LOFC website. Apart from Archibald obviously, he says the only question mark is against Galbraith. Yes, I must have misunderstood RW in the podcast, there's no mention of any problem with Clare in RW's pre-Northampton comments. My apologies Ramrod - your initial thoughts seem to have been correct.👍

Let’s analyse that goal
We dick around at the back. Long punt goes out for a throw. Give away the ball cheaply. They attack. They score. Pretty much what my earlier post said
😡😡😡😡

It has never created hatfuls of chances and goals, even in League Two.
