Just a short PS to your podcast. For reasons I won’t bore you with I watched Saturdays game at Northampton from the Main Stand. I was about 15 yards or so away from the O’s dugout. Your guest -Chris- was spot on about scapegoats. RW was almost constantly on the back of two or three players who were evidently unable to carry out his instructions or ignoring them. It’s time for a bit or a re-think imho. Reduce the level of aggressive sideline coaching - strip things back to the fundamentals and empower the players to think for themselves a bit more whilst on the pitch. It might just work.👍

Always, it may surprise some, wanting to stick my nose in and offer my two-pennys worth. Suffocating I’m sure. But I learnt to surround myself with good people who I could trust and let them do their job, be there should they need help. People grow and develop also show they are capable. Those that couldn’t, well that’s down to me, I employed them. RW is a great guy, but if I were playing, his endless actions on the touchline would drive me insane and I’d want away. Occasionally, fine, but he goes OTT.

It’s too much, the players look bewildered at times.

I'm not saying your wrong just that it happens at the top level too. Who is right in that type of coaching or who is wrong is probably down to the delivery of the words being given. I've never heard Richie so don't know what he's saying. But a very good observation RITF nevertheless.

It’s too much, the players look bewildered at times. I was at Reading, last season not this. Richie was on the pitch dishing out instructions. And I mean on the pitch. He collided with the linesman at one point, running the line and not expecting someone in his way. An ex player who really wants to be out there. The technical area is there for a reason. Richie ignores it. He constantly moans at the 4th official too. And of course we know he interferes with play. Some self discipline is called for. There is coaching the players but this is too much.
