On the radio show, Phoenix FM if memory serves. Thors question got asked, he was named. The question prefixed by ‘I bet this question won’t get asked’ In my opinion a really good question, not welcomed by RW and dismissed out of hand. Have a listen and decide for yourself. Shame really because it was a question I really wanted his take on, he has said this before and since, we play too slow at times. And we all know we do. I’m no tactical expert, my views perhaps moulded by past times. So why do the players do it despite RW bringing this us as an issue before. This I feel is the crux! Are the players really listening to him. I suspect not. Sore point methinks. RW seems to be a bit of......my way or no way and not open to any suggestions for improvements. Definitely in my opinion. Thats fine when things are going well, which has been most of his time with us and credit for that. But I’ve always felt the measure of a top manager, any business, is how they manage when things inevitably go wrong. Generally the first time with us and thus far his crown is slipping a bit. I’m sure he discusses matters with the players and the management team. Of course he does. But how much the opinions of others really make any difference we will never know. My guess, not a great deal. |

My guess, not a great deal. I am a big fan of Matt Harold, both as a coach, player ( when he was younger ) and also as a person. I think his calming effect is missed this season as well as his input as a forward coach. RW seems fixated on Kelman as his main player up front, well it is not working out is it. Ruel, like the player or not was a natural goalscorer, Kelman is not. Sure he puts in a lot of work in up top but unless things change, we need goals, we all can see that. Why he does not try and put Dan Agyei up top instead is beyond me. is it Richie just being too stubborn to admit he is wrong ? Ok Kelman might suddenly start banging the goals in and great if that happens but until or if that happens, time to switch direction. Also perhaps try and put Ollie on the wing where he is more suited to play. |

I thought it was quite a reflective interview.
He recognised that when things are going wrong he’s throwing his arms up in frustration, rather than encouraging and motivating the players. So first step but an important one.
He believes in his system, points out that when we do things he’s told them not to do ( Happe cross field ball), that’s when things go wrong. Also that we panic (my word) when we go behind and stop doing things that gave us control of the game in the first place.
So I don’t expect major changes in style, perhaps less tinkering and lecturing from the side, but he has faith we can compete and I think we can too.

Just watched this video and ok talking but to me, why give any hints to the opposition as to what your tactics and planned way of playing will be for this forthcoming match ? Pre-warned is pre-armed ! Little doubt Evans has looked at recordings of our previous games. An old campaigner. He will be prepared for anything we toss at him. But I badly want us to win this one for many reasons. I am sure RW would have looked at the way Evans team has played.We have the chess board and what will be our first move,and will we play rough and ruffle Evans feathers.Horrible geezer,but I do like him and RW as managers,Wonder who will get the first yellow or red.The benches will be as interesting as the match. |
