That is a shame, not like he is a player who deserves getting booked, not a rough sort of fullback at all. Gives Richie a problem. No Clare so maybe Brown or Galbraith in the James role. Neither fill me with joy for different reasons. Galbraith is totally wasted there, Brown not good enough. Wouldn’t surprise me to see 3 centre backs with Galbraith and Currie taking on the wing back roles. But we go into the game unbeaten in one. Good time to get an unbeaten run going. Good idea and may well be right as to the team set up for the next game ?

Excellent headed goal and actually picked his spot and guided the ball in so well. Any top centre forward would have been pleased at scoring a goal like that. He did. I’ve often wondered why Dan doesn’t get a few more goals when he is at corner kicks / free kicks. I’m sure you well remember back in the day Terry Mancini was very adept at getting his head on the ball in the opposition box and scored a good few goals too.👍 That Happe goal was as good a headed goal as I have ever seen from an Os player. Yes Terry''Henry'' Mancini, yes wonder how we picked up such a good player for free ?
Many thought he looked like and old man due to him being mostly bald o, but in fact he was only around 26 years old when he joined us ! Great character and the Os back four of Jones, Mancini, Taylor and Rofe was wonderful ! Terry is still alive and is now 82 years years young !!

I believe Mancini actually cost the club the grand total of £10 in the form of a signing on fee . A master stroke from the O’s manager at the time,Dick Graham.

I recall petchey wasn't keen on Mancini and sold him to QPR for 30k. Then spent the same buying Hoadley from palace. Do you recall Mancini wore a wig in the first half for QPR in a TV game v Liverpool. At the half time whistle he tore it off and brought the house down!!

Petchey thought that buying a 20 year old Hoadley for £30k and selling Mancini who was 10 years older to QPR for the same sum was good business. Much as I liked Terry I think his decision was justified by results and the £100k plus we got from Norwich when Phil was sold.

Both were good Mancini went on to QPR and Arsenal from memory I had a season ticket in that time saw both at that time I can’t work out who was better from my memory I guess PH age was better for orient but they were both good for orient

Just goes to show that Dick Graham did make some good decisions and signings. He was a much maligned manager but on the other hand, at that time it was a very hard to manage the Os with so little money in the kitty.

Petchey brought in many players from his former club Crystal Palace. He knew the players as he had been their former coach and his judgements were proved correct.

Also not so many good young players coming through the youth teams, of course so much harder than years ago to attract good young players with the top premier teams scooping up all the top young players.

The club was in a shambles on and off the field at the time. Graham was faced with a task of trying to survive and managed it quite well. Another couple of his good signings were Vic Halom and Bert “ Elbows” Howe - hard as nails full back.

Halom came on a free from Charlton. He was a full back, but was put up top due to injuries. We only had him just over a year I believe the 30k Fulham gave us was a record.A tidy profit for us in 1968 We bought bullock and dyson.Good business by the os

Apparently Brian Clough was interested in signing him by putting a bid in for £50,000 but he contacted the Os too late, deal with Fulham was already done !

Oh for an Os forward nowadays who could hit the ball as hard as Cliff did.

Dick graham was very canny He tried everything Such as orient strikers wearing defenders numbers and visa versa Also at Colchester when they beat Leeds in the fa cup,he had people sit in chairs all around the touchline to cramp space.Leeds hated it..

It was Holton Victor H came from Charlton he was really very good and I remember Howe he was good too Remember the balls were much heavier then and with the pitches not draining very well they would of absorbed the surface water too I remember heading a ball and the lace tie up marking my face

Many in line before us to sign the better class players,if we could get one of our own worth 5/6 million I am sure al lot of that would go on signing players.I did read in the DT a few weeks back that as you say the bigger teams snap up the young players,This was about a premier league club saying they get players into the academy to make 3 or 4 million on transfer fees even though they make few if any first team games. It is good business practice. I am satisfied with what we have, interesting at times to see how a player develops.Would like better but I expect Manchester City feel the same.I was going to say Newcastle but they have started to fall back a little.
