That time again. Love it.
A Christmas Carol. Best is the Patrick Stewart version but the Ross Kemp one good too. What it several times every year. Soon time to get the tree out and put the decorations up.
Mince pies, Sherry and Christmas dinner with family.

I’ll raise you Alistair Sim for best Scrooge..I don’t mind the odd mince pie..But the Chrismas dinner is number 1 for me

I'm not a Christmas lover ( especially this coming one being the first one without mum ☹️ ) i will however accept the invitation to go to my nephews for a large family get together , no doubt i will consume a fair bit of booze to ease the pain .

My Mum died this year as well Ron - 2 weeks before her birthday (she would have been 101). She lived in the Isle of Dogs throughout the blitz and used to tell us about the church near her block of flats that was flattened by a landmine. As for Christmas, I enjoy It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol and a whisky or two. I don't enjoy the commercial hype nor the religion propaganda while there's genocide going on in various theatres around the world.

Not so much now but midnight mass was a tradition in the doh household. That and the carols add on. I appreciate for some Christmas and new year is a really tough time. At the stroke of midnight news years Eve/day I say a silent happy new year to many of my family no longer with us. Never forgotten. I dare say many of us do.
Christmas Day brings back so many good memories of times gone by. With it the hope we are creating good memories for others in our family. Time moves on. Recall Leslie Crowther in the childrens hospital. Think Max Bygraves did similar.
It’s a day to be enjoyed whilst you can.

Alistair Sim was good , the Ross Kemp retelling was a good attempt at a modern version but for me the best of all was the 1970 musical version Scrooge with Albert Finney, Alec Guiness, Edith Evans, Kenneth Moore, Anton Rodgers, Gordon Jackson and a host of stars. If this version doesn’t bring home the story whilst throughly entertaining you then you must be a Bah Humbug !

Jingle All The Way is the ultimate festive movie, followed by Die Hard and Die Harder with an honourable mention for Home Alone 1&2, Krampus and Scrooged. I will confess to a liking for It's A Wonderful Life which is best watched late on Christmas Day when everyone else bar my daughter and I have gone to bed.
PS Do not watch Cats - I watched it once and not sure I have wholly recovered.

Recall Leslie Crowther in the childrens hospital. Think Max Bygraves did similar. It’s a day to be enjoyed whilst you can. Midnight mass was forced upon me and my siblings at Christmas! A tradition in my childhood household. Strong Catholic upbringing, midnight mass an extension of the Sunday ritual. As an Altar-boy I got the chance to participate in the service too. Much of it in Latin, something I was forced to learn at school. Hated it. Always struck me how odd it was the congregation following the Latin Service when few, if any, knew what they were actually saying. The other thing I observed was how many pious people came out of the pub, smelling of booze. The start of my understanding of the hypocrisy of religion. So many examples later.
