Aside from having two proper names and no surname, I like him.
Harshly treated by some and definitely not a full back.
Love to see him competing for a centre midfield spot with one other.

What's to like? The majority of his forward passes never reach their target so he spends the whole game passing backwards. He doesn't tackle and then when he does (after 70 odd minutes of goading from the crowd) he gets booked . He can't challenge in the air either. I don't mind him as a back up because I understand we can't afford a quality player to sit on the bench but I don't want him in the stating 11.

Got to agree with this, I saw him a bit at Colchester and was very suprised when they offered him a new contract. On paper he's what we need can play two poitions and versitile, unfortunately he's poor in both.

Bit harsh I reckon.
He flourished at Southampton in a better team than we've had.
Maybe he's two steps ahead of the others?
Sort of like when Messi kicks the ball out of play but others take the flak for not keeping up.
Plus he was captain of an amazing youth team.

If thats the case then he's more than two steps ahead... maybe four or five.
In all seriousness though, he's not terrible but not a starter for me.

He came in and I think we all look for a Dawson-esq player which he clearly isn't. He obviously has ability but hasn't shown it as of yet, but i thought that of Spring and i personally thought he was woeful in his first season but clearly a better player in his second season. Hopefully this is the case for James. I think he has a young family too and maybe things have been unsettling. I think it needs to be a clean slate and judge him now on the season ahead. And if there isn't anything of note he has his contract up next summer and we let him go.
