There is a scarcity of data but the ONS do give more details.
There has been some data published and without doubt the existence of underlying medical conditions is a major factor. The virus certainly attacks such weaknesses. From what I have taken from the statistics is that many of the deaths are people who were, let’s say, in the last period of their life and Covid brings it to a head quicker. Periods of higher than average deaths being followed by periods of lower than average deaths. But of course younger, fitter, healthier people have died too. No one is immune to death from Covid, just have better odds.
it’s the un-quantified stats that are of a real concern. various experts trolling out for example estimates of cancer victims going undiagnosed quick enough and so on. 50k/60k additional cancer deaths were the last estimates I saw and that was at the second wave stage. Infected people who don’t die, but use medical resources. Hospital waiting lists are a joke. Don’t get me started on GP appointments. It’s a mess.
The bottom line is Covid deaths is only part of the picture. The damage in the wake of infection is huge. Latest statistics suggest people are 32 times less likely to require significant medical help if they are vaccinated. People who choose not to get vaccinated increase risks for other people whilst they themselves in many cases can be smug in their own personal low risk category.
And experts stated 18 months ago that the real risk of not getting this virus under control was the probability (not possibility) of mutations. A forecast that has now come true. This is a global problem.
The Covid vaccination programme is as much about protecting others as it is about protecting yourself. It provides people the opportunity to consider others. I see it as hugely selfish when people say I’m all right Jack so sod everybody else, I’m not getting the jab.
This issue is bigger than football. As far as I’m concerned, Covid passports should be enforced at all grounds. No jabs, then don’t come. End of.
I went to the theatre yesterday. No passport, no entry. Every person checked on entry. Quite right too. More of that in my opinion where enforcement is practical.
We also now know that if you get Covid you are 32 times more likely to be hospitalised if you are not jabbed. We ALL know the issues with hospital waiting lists and GP appointments due to the pressures of Covid, substantially reduced by vaccination. Prior to Omicron, the infection rate was high, but hospitalisation reduced because of the effect of vaccination. The vaccines are working. To suggest otherwise is breathtaking.
Covid and vaccines is about odds. There are no guaranteed answers. But the numbers are Crystal clear.
To suggest it’s not the unvaccinated spreading the virus is nonsense. If that was true how the feck did the virus spread when nobody was vaccinated. Think about it!
