Colin Pratt: Died 2nd Oct 2021 aged 83. Those of you who went to Hackney Speedway in the mid to late sixties would remember him as our number one and captain. Went on to manage the GB Speedway team amongst other achievements. On bike (1968) You would also know (who went in the 64- 83 era) who Len Silver is, Hawks colourful and entertaining promoter (sitting on back of bike) who is now 89 years old.

Never been to speedway Bas but started to enjoy it on BT sports.Especially the Grand Prix's. RIP Colin. I've always been into Speedway, red. I've travelled to all parts of the country watching it, also Denmark and Holland for World Finals. I've even had a few goes at it myself. Last time at Arena Essex (Lakeside) I ended up in Orsett Hospital with concussion. I went on my own (coz I wanted to) to Denmark, thumbing lifts. The first lift from Billund airport was from a woman LEGOLAND driver who dumped me outside of the LEGOLAND factory in the middle of nowhere. The next lift was from a bloke who was in the same class at school as Jan Molby (ex Liverpool). Train plus lifts on the way back. Left my passport, wallet, plane tickets, keys and other stuff in a holdall on the train, ran back, collected, and just about made it off the train before it went off to who knows where. Got into LEGOLAND (near the airport) for free, someone on their way out gave me a ticket (with all the extras) but only about a hour to do it all in. Got pulled up by customs at Southend airport (I'm wearing a rucksack and a tent), he wanted me to empty my rucksack, I said to him that it's taken me ages to pack that lot in (camping stuff) correctly. He said "go on then" and let me go. On the way over got upgraded to first class at Southend, which was nice, lonely (first class lounge) but nice. I'm now thinking, have I said all this before?

Sounded great journey.Would you do it now? Not in the same way, back packing with more tins of beans than clothes was for when I was younger. That particular trip was something I wanted to do on my own to prove to myself that I could. Initially I was going to go by trail bike but I got convinced by the motorbike shop to go by road bike, so I bought a road bike. Ended up going by plane.
