You can still go to the cabin where she grew up and get a tour by her extended family for five dollars if you’re willing to travel all the way to Van Lear in the eastern hills of Kentucky. Just set the gps when you get there for Butcher Hollow road, of course. She was only a coal miner’s daughter!👍 |

Ooh look, country fans! Yay! I've played in (not very good) hillbilly and country bands most of my life. All my peers were into Floyd, Genesis, Stones, Dire Straits..... they'd never heard of Danny Gatton, James Burton, Brent Mason.... It's the same here in Croatia "how can you be English and not play Brick-in-the-wall?". I still have three Telecasters, I'll probably be buried with 'em.

I haven’t gone to see a live act in quite awhile. The last we saw was Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit here in town before the pandemic and they were fantastic. Isbell himself is a great guitarist, and and even greater song writer. One of the best there is right now. IMHO. You should check out some Loretta Lynn stuff online. She wrote most of her own stuff, and she collaborated later in life with Jack White to do an album in the 2000’s. Really great song writing with her too. |

It’s funny about the expectations people have. My wife the West Virginian cringes when she hears Country Roads. She studied in Germany, the one place she thought she could get away from it, and heard it constantly. She likes the song but it gets old. |

I would say that few people have more respect for Ms. Lynn than I do. I view this more as a celebration of these lives.
