25th April is ANZAC day although by the time our colleagues down there see this, it'll be 26th.

Singer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte, aged 96. I remember first hearing his rendition of "Scarlet Ribbons" on the wireless at the tender age of four, finding it incredibly haunting - my young mind picturing clearly the scene that he depicted so vividly...

I think of him as a quintessentially Ohio type celebrity, but it’s interesting that he was born in a London Underground station in early 1944. Interesting and tragic family story as well. His tv career was not my favorite but RIP.

I meant to post this on his birthday on April 29, but Willie Nelson just turned 90. Interesting to note that his birth certificate says his given name is Willie Hugh Nelson. Not William, or Willard or something but Willie. He’s still touring strong, and will be in my little town later this year. I don’t think we’ll spend the money on tickets because that would cut a little too deeply into our Fly to London and go directly to a game at Brisbane Road designated savings.
His country music is world class, but his jazz stuff is very good too.

She did quite a lot of backing vocals in the 1970s for the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens if I remember rightly

I’d forgotten all about her until I heard the news and then checked her out on YouTube. Born in West Ham and had an amazing range of vocals. She did lots of background vocals for David Bowie and Rod Stewart amongst others. And a real cutesy as well. So pretty. RIP.
