This one is likely just for me but hopefully not. Cormac McCarthy, author of the Blood Meridian, No Country for Old Men, the Sunset Limited, The Road, All the Pretty Horses, and other books died today in Santa Fe, New Mexico aged 89. I hope people will read his books. They are honest. Here is a quote of his that I like. “Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it.” Never read any of his books. I have watched the movie of No Country for Old Men. It was a great film but it’s a violent story. The ending still confuses me !! Might read the book just to see if the book is any clearer than the movie. Good points. You should read the book I humbly suggest. It’s a page turner. The book provides more context and backstory which may help. The Coen brothers are gifted and they align the film and the book pretty closely, and the ending is taken word for word from the book. FWIW, I think the book was intended as a modern western, and I think Sheriff Ed Tom Bell is a beaten man who believes in a boogeyman that he never sees but who terrifies him. He’s the opposite of Marshall Will Kane in High Noon who knows his enemies and goes out to confront them even when he has been abandoned by the town. There is a lot of gnostic kind of thinking in McCarthy’s work, and he thinks the good human needs to be at least as strong as the evil natural world and our sympathetic Sheriff is no longer up to the task. I think the ending juxtaposed with his meeting with his Uncle Ellis tells us where he is mentally and spiritually.

Just heard that John Hollins has died, aged 76. Surely an old-school, gentleman footballer.

I saw the film again two days ago, always watch it,the villain is a real psychopath.Such an unusual weapon.

I seem to recall Surez breaking the previous record for the size of transfer fee, probably when he moved to lnter I remember the sports shop in Forest Road, Walthamstow- Sedgwick’s - had a very large photo of the Inter Milan team from that era in their window advertising Addidas boots. How I wanted a pair of them!😄👍

I saw Graham play at Leyton when he was a young man. When he was out he went to the ice cream van and devoured a large cone of ice cream with childish relish.
