Loved going to Southend in my dads 1936 austin, all nine of us somehow packed in.We sung all the way there and all the way back, with about 3/6d to spend between the lot of us.Oh those halcyon days. I’ve done a few pub crawls in Southend. Great for a lads day out. Booze, fun rides, chatting up the local talent, nosh, more booze. Always managed to get home. Not too sure I was singing though. Never been one for the drink, probably missed out on a lot of either trouble or fun.One of the find me in the kitchen at parties type.Lots of girls liked to be in the kitchen too.

Southend are one of the proper old clubs: 100 years in the Football League this year. When I was a footy mad youngster I frequently used to go to Southend on a Friday night and Orient on Saturday. I don't want to see them go- just be comfortably below us.

The money will appear in the nick of time. What they always do. Seems to be the MO of Ron Martin.

Not the way to do things though. I agree. Not about how rich he is but how much cash he can rustle up. Probably waits until his hand is forced before he acts. Rumours are players wages may get missed. They have a suspended penalty pending so if that happens it’s a points deduction too. Dark times. I feel for their fans. A well supported club with a long, solid history.

As far as I can work out they are building a new stadium and selling Roots Hall for housing development. I've no idea how the stats add up but I imagine the idea is that the sale will sort their money problems.

A proper view from a fan that knows.
Yes there are a lot of fans slagging him off but they live with their heads in the clouds I think and don't understand the real world. They seem to think there's some rich Russian oligarch out there waiting to buy us or any other league two/one club, but why would they? It's true we have had four winding up orders versus Macclesfield's twelve but circumstances have conspired against us and others over the years with the 2008 economic crash, retail going more online meaning Sainsbury's pulled out of a deal to buy the existing ground and causing a re-think of the proposed ground which featured a lot of retail. This should be resolved with a deal with Southend council to take on all the housing that will now be built around the new ground and on the site of the existing ground, plus coronavirus on top of all that!
I like to stay positive and believe the deal with the council will get the green light, resolving the issues and things will improve on the pitch also. So many people are doom and gloom just because we were embarrassed in the first game of the season! How many times have you seen an unexpected team at the top of the premier league in August only to be relegated come May? Just look at Plymouth in league one a few seasons ago, bottom at Xmas and just missed out on the play-offs. There's a long way to go, I just wish people would support their club. Unfortunately as seems the case with all online social media it just gives those who wouldn't say anything to someone's face the chance to moan on and slag people off, offering no solutions because they don't understand business.

My nephew is a many years ST holder at Roots Hall and watches them Home and many away games. He qualifies as a genuine supporter. He is thoroughly hacked off with what’s been going on for some time and angry, but not surprised at their fall. Been expecting it. He predicted NL football in two seasons at the start of last season and has seen nothing to suggest his prediction will be wrong. The issues are not new but an ongoing shambolic mismanagement of the club. His opinion. of course it’s early days, of course they could improve, of course they could and hopefully do avoid relegation. But they are in one hell of a mess.

I wonder if the Southend supporters chuckled at our demise into the National League. Then felt guilty about it,and were secretly delighted when we became National League champions. The National League felt a little cheap to me at first, then I started to enjoy all those local club visits feeling superior, though sometimes humiliated. Just trying to say to Southend supporters it is not as bad as you think, you will be a big boy in the league, and that fabulous feeling when you get back into the football league.

I hated it with a passion. Would never watch NL football again. The only reason I did was in support of what the new owners wanted to achieve. Wanted to do my small bit. but never again.
