It wasn't long ago they were doing well in FL1 and we were sinking like a stone near the bottom of the NL. It seems our fortunes have reversed but, despite the temptation, l don't feel like gloating. We have a great rivalry with them and I would like to see that continue on the pitch. Games against the shrimpers have always had that extra tension and drama, I'd prefer that than playing the likes of Forest Green. That aside, history teaches us good fortune can go as quickly as it came. I wish them well but I fear they are in for hard times unless they can find owners like ours.

Was actually just thinking about the Shrimpers.
Had a read of their message board this morning and it seems like they've sold off anyone decent, got a rookie manager in, are under a transfer embargo and are having to play their youth team players. It all sounds very similar to our playing situation under the Italian.
I was thinking about the Colchester game and how halfway through the match and especially in the pitch invasion I think their fans, management, directors and players actually realised how bad our situation was and they joined forces with our supporters for the protest.
Whilst I like to beat Southend I would definitely stand with them if something similar was happening to them as what happened to us. And I wouldn't want to see them fallout the trap door into non league.

I really don’t want to see them drop into the NL. They are a decent club with a strong fan base being shafted by their owner. Only 1 game so plenty of time for them to recover.

That said , we don't play them to Christmas (29th). I wish we were playing them next week before they get new owners and Some new players . Self interest rules !!

When I first saw that they were losing 0-4 at home my first reaction was no I don't want to see that. At most any other time I would of loved it but not now.
Finish above them and win against them yes but I don't want them to drop down or anything worse.
I hope they can start putting some results together and avoid the drop but the writing looks to be on the wall.
P.S. I'll be back to edit this if they end up finishing above us.

Wouldn't bother me if they went down. Their owner has played the game with Inland Revenue for years now. And their "fans" almost killed a Cambridge supporter in the Railway Tavern at Prittlewell a few years ago. Rather see Wrexham, Notts Co,Stockport or Torquay back in the EFL.

Don’t judge a club by a few fans. Plenty of clubs have their share of idiots. And they are not alone in having a bad owner. It happens.

This is not a nice, little local club. They are supported by many feral fans and their demise would not be something to mourn.

I have both family and friends who are regulars, ST holders, at Roots Hall. Ordinary fans like us. They love their club, support it and for many the support is home and plenty of games away. Ordinary fans like us I say again. They have a strong and loyal fan base and I for one would not wish NL football on them. For sure I hope we stuff them when we play and end up higher in the league. But relegation for them, I sincerely hope not.

Must be tremendous potential there for at least a championship club. Must agree they are the most look forward to games, and the worst feeling if we lose. I would like to se them struggle then stay up with the last kick of the season, for three years.

I used to watch them on Friday nights with my friends who were and still are Shrimpers fans. They have suffered as we did with a poor owner and whilst I want us to stuff them when we play them, I don’t want to see them relegated and possibly doing a Bury. Nice to have a rivalry and be able to hold the bragging rights now and again.

Plenty of proper Shrimper fans where I live .Talking of feral fans they make up a lot of our support I believe, Spuds, Ars and Shammers all at the O’s.

I’ve done a few pub crawls in Southend. Great for a lads day out. Booze, fun rides, chatting up the local talent, nosh, more booze. Always managed to get home. Not too sure I was singing though.
