Looks bad for them. Winding up order granted. I’d like to think they may still survive but it’s looking grim.
Southend get a stay of execution till 28th October. Debts of £450k plus. Staggering.

Even Becchetti didn’t run up that sort of debt! 😯 The day of reckoning is approaching for not only these two clubs but professional football in this country generally it would seem.

I'm sorry for Macclesfield and a little saddened that so many clubs appear to be so badly managed, throughout my life, I think it was only Accrington who went out of existence, it was so rare, that fact made them a household name for failure. Third Lanark followed many years later and was the first to be clearly identified as victims of greed, mis-management at the hands of the owner/major shareholder. In recent years we've seen a few clubs disappear or require to be re-born a long way down the hierachy, but now, I get the sense there's quite a number teetering on the edge. Covid hasn't helped but I'm sure there's more to it than that and anyone blaming the Bosman ruling are also way off the mark. I would hate to see Southend go but it seems Ron Martin can always find the money at the eleventh hour. What happened to that deal he did with the new ground and Sainsburys (or Tescos or whoever)?

Corrected my initial entry, of course K not M and in the great scheme of things not a staggering amount. Have no doubt it will be paid.

Gareth Bale could pay off Macclesfield's debt with one week's salary, and still have plenty left over.
