I see the day when the big decision must be taken....
Do we either
(A) Save lives and risk ruining society as we know it - or
(B) Carry on much as before and regard those who die from Covid/related problems as collateral damage in the battle.
I'm in the high risk group but I still vote for (B). The sooner the better.

Covid 19 apparently accounted for less than 1.5% of deaths in the month of August making it 24th on the list of most prolific causes of death in the UK - according the the ONS.🤔

What a difficult situation for all concerned. At what age or condition does life matter, that is the question the government has to deal with, and the consequence of that decision. I do not think I will be going to the O's again. That is not by choice, just not my decision to make. Just returned from shopping, the panic buyers have returned. We have the most awful MSM.

Life always matters - irrespective of age or condition but quality of life can matter just as much , if not more imho. Agree with you wholeheartedly about the MSM.

I have little doubt lockdown was necessary, for a short period. It was equally clear that the spinoff impacts of the lockdown had the probability to be more harmful in the long run than Covid itself. Which is what we are now seeing. Inevitable. i don’t subscribe to the collateral damage concept. I cannot view any death in those terms. But I do subscribe to the idea of more information about the risks and numbers of people who die as a consequence. As well as Covid. Some perspective. those at risk need to take personal responsibility and do all they/we can. Those less at risk of serious consequences need to be cautious, avoid the spread, and get on with life.

Unfortunately the concept of “ persepective” seems to alien to some and a rational debate about the implications of COVID-19 lockdowns vs the wider implications on the economy / general well being/ other forms of illness being sidelined is difficult to achieve in the midst of a welter of speculation and moral outrage!

It would be almost impossible for a Government to raise this topic. Make it open to all sorts of criticism. Easiest not to talk about it. Like so many topics these days. A world full of politicians afraid to talk about important matters in an open, honest way for fear of being slaughtered by the media. so much for freedom.

Far too many people in this country poking their noses in where they are not wanted. The tyrannical approach to almost everything has ruined our country. One thing the virus has done is to stop the nannying on the underground about wet platforms etc, only to be replaced with covid nannying and telling us how wonderful the mayor and TFL are.

I sm aware of the harsh nature of my original "save lives or let Covid do its thing" and l certainly understand redshank's refusal to accept the concept. It isn't something l feel comfortable preaching but, like dohnut says, not dealing with things doesn't make them go away, it usually makes them worse - the road to hell and all that? My fear is that the choice will be made for us by the force of nature and that will be the harshest imaginable.

Why make yourself miserable in the interim?
