Reading back on my views re Ruel and May on this thread, Right about Ruel (for those who seem to think I had a downer on him, shows I believe what a good prospect he is) and May. Proven goal scorer but if Charlton make money on him then I got that wrong. Would be interesting to know if Charlton considered turning a profit on him or whether they just lucked out on a big club getting relegated and happily paying over the odds for him. Do you think a club would've paid good money for Ruel this summer if we'd extended his contract earlier? RS was clearly not interested as we had offered contracts over the last year. We received a fee anyway.

Like May as a player and always going to get goals but for Charlton he did better than I expected. And with bigger clubs around I don’t blame them for cashing in while they can if that’s what happens. Ruel was always going to go, though I expected him to move up in terms of who he went to. So much potential, if BR can get him to reach it they will have a great player. I don’t think we ever saw the best of him that often. A 3 year deal would have been good, even with a get out clause. But probably not something he would have agreed to. Understandable. So 2 years was Probably the best we could do. Just hope we got decent compensation.

Do you think a club would've paid good money for Ruel this summer if we'd extended his contract earlier? the new owners were not in situ when he was bought and voiced concerns that they didn't want him as they wouldn't be able to turn a profit on him and the 300k was money down the drain. If you look at Richard Crawley who reports on them he said its gonna happen. On their fans forum the suggested fee is £1.2m and when the terriers get there then he will be sold. They are apart in valuations at present. Now if you read what Jones has said in the paper, he will be gone but only if he wants him to and then he wants the cash to splash. He scored 27 goals last season and I don't see how or where they replace that.

It seems Birmingham City may have hijacked Huddersfield’s bid for Alfie May at the last knockings! He certainly would appear to have quite a number of admirers amongst L1 clubs despite some views expressed on here!😆👍 x.com/SportsPeteO/status/1807019667828932815

Not bad for a player who was spotted playing for Hythe Town. If we cannot compete with the big hitters in league 1 can the Scouts redouble their efforts and unearth another Alfie May type non league player?

I live in Kent. I can shoot down to Hythe and see what they've got.

Quite agree osoldguy but for every one success there are many failures, just look at the Championship and Premier League for released players. We just ain't got money to fiddle around with.

He wants May to play out wide, which he doesn’t want to do..So what you say kinda makes sense
