Scored 2 goals last night for Charlton in a 3-2 win at Wigan he's now Scored 11 in the league what a signing he's been for them for around 300k from Cheltenham i wonder if we were interested in him I'd imagine he had a lot of offers and Charlton offered top wages

Just how many of the strikers mentioned on this forum are regular scorers and are taking their team to glory. We all love a goal scorer especially one that tops the list, but sadly that is for richer clubs than ours.

Just shows how well we did in getting Peter Kitchen back in '77 We were a reasonable second division side then in the old 4 division set up. Also within this time frame we attracted Ian Moores from Spurs, Ian Bowyer, Stan Bowles and Gerry Queen from Crystal Palace. Arsenal loaned us Kevin Campbell and later Harry Kane from Spurs. There are more names no doubt the officialnados on this Forum will tell you.

You got there before me, the drunken bird laying on the pool lounger in Benidorm (TV programme) distracted me from posting straightaway. Yeah you're right we've had many top players playing for us at one time or another. Alan Whittle, Ray Wilkins, Shilts, just popped into my head. Just looked it up, Ray Wilkins only played 3 games for us. What was that all about?

I think we drove ray wilkins into retirement didn’t we? I’m sure I recall him making some comment along the lines that he knew it was time to retire after his first dozen touches in the match were all with his head!

Drama, goals, penalty and Wilkins protecting the referee from getting thumped. Was there with Mrs dOh. If memory served BHA equalised late on with a penalty.

It was a lot different then , our gates were slightly higher and sometimes we used to get more than 10,000 in the ground when the bigger boys and local derbies came to town and a lot of our players were on their way down .

I also remember the dark days when Peter Kitchen returned on a tuesday night game with a crowd under 2000. Also a London Senior Cup final with about 3300 at the game.

We have had good strikers and many moved on to better things. We have a storied past and nearly always punch above our weight. It must be the clubs aura that affects the efforts of the players.

In a good way or a bad way? What would you say was the aura of the club when we were in the 2nd tier (Div2), and what is the aura now?

We had quite a few players who were just passed their peak, players like Whalley ,Jackson, Lazarus etc ,who were still very capable . Some very good managers as well that helped the team to some dream results and we still had the showbiz connections . Probably the worst pitch in the football league .

Both good, the reason many old players return to their spiritual football home.We are a special club, almost divine.

Devine played for Watford didn’t he? 😂 We should take Comfort for our spiritual home as do some of the players. A brilliant winger in the Eighties for the O's Alan was blessed with ability only for his playing career to be cut short by injury. How well a replacement would he have been for Graham if he was playing now. 😇
