Difficult a job that it is,can the standard of match officials in the lower leagues be afforded more power to have another say as to what is a blue card offence.Watching the match officials warming up gives one a good idea what the officiating is going to be,I always dread the small refs, and those with jutting chins. Blue cards are currently used down the pyramid. I’ve looked at my local Wessex league teams and can see no record of one being issued. Reds and yellows aplenty. Based the games I see, the referee levels are OK in general. Some decisions mystify me sometimes but I don’t immediately assume the referee is wrong and I am right. But I suspect that for many fans, any decision made by the referee that they don’t agree with is wrong. That is not a concept I subscribe too. Of course mistakes are made even by the small ones with jutting chins.

Trouble is Dohnut many fans don't understand the laws as they stand or are being enforced today. I don't necessarily agree with all the changes as people like Stuart Pearce and he wasn't a dirty hard player would properly struggle today let alone the real hard hatchet men of yesterday year.
On a sat people go mad at a decision and I sit there thinking why? The ref is right and you don't understand. Sometimes I do rise and shout when they get it wrong, but most don't really get it.
I reffed an U17 game this season as the league ref didn't show and there was a clear foul just inside the opposition half and I shouted and waved play on. The team fouled were going mad at me for not giving the foul. The play continued and the moaning continued, four passes later the balls in the net. The player who was most vocal came up to me and said sorry ref I was wrong. I did say to him I can pull it back for the foul if you want? So I had every player on my back, their coaches screaming at me, but they had clear use of the ball, no one to stop the play moving onwards and they end up scoring. If a challenge subsequently stopped the play and no advantage had happened I'd have pulled it back for the foul, I let the game flow and they got their equaliser. So sometimes people react without thinking it through, we all do it and have done it.
Like you've said you can't get them all right, but play the game to the laws and you should get most right.

Not too sure I understand the laws too much these day Thor. I always found playing advantage very difficult. As a fan as well as a referee conflict arises. I don’t like stop/start games as a spectator so perhaps erred (or mistakingly) on the side of letting the game flow bur sometimes advantage turns out not to be. Mistake? Probably. The biggest irritation were players moaning about decisions with each other but clearly within my range of hearing. Subltle, not. I just pretended not to hear. I guess having stepped in last minute you didn’t have linesmen who knew the rules either. That was a rare luxury for me. But had you not stepped in there would be no game at all. Players forget that sometimes. I gave up lots of my time, not just doing the course but on match days, for a pittance of a match fee, so boys can enjoy a game. I’d sooner be playing. Was I any more understanding as a player? Not a bit.
