Dear Leyton Orient supporters,
We are writing to you at what is a very exciting time for our football club. The last six and a half years have been an incredible journey; we have won two league titles and are currently enjoying a fantastic first season back in the third tier of English football.
At the time we acquired the club in June 2017, we outlined our vision to return to League One within six seasons. Last summer, we achieved that together.
Without your unwavering support through the lowest of low times, our recent successes would, quite simply, not have happened. For that, we would once again like to thank you.
Whilst we will never tire of expressing our gratitude towards our Leyton Orient family, we write to you on this occasion to look forward rather than back.
Returning to League One within six seasons was our aim in 2017 but that is by no means our end goal.
As a board of directors, we are determined to continue Leyton Orient’s upward curve. We believe the club’s potential is greater than where we find ourselves now and on Monday evening we outlined our new mission statement to the supporter group representatives at the Fans Forum.
We are now in a position to share that with the wider Leyton Orient family.
Our new mission statement is: To grow Leyton Orient into a club that can compete sustainably at Championship level
Whilst, this time, we will not put a time scale on our new objective, we are confident that we can achieve it by maximising and enhancing our existing revenue streams and by applying the same values that have served us so well since June 2017.
Those values are:
Transparency
Challenge
Excellence
Togetherness
Humility
Community
In the short to medium term, we wish to broaden our shareholder base by bringing new investor(s) on board to join us and help the club continue its progression on and off the pitch.
The funds they inject into the football club would be used to:
Accelerate the building of a high-quality training facility for the men’s, women’s and academy players
Support our operations at a level which will match the ambition of the directors, coaching staff and supporters
Invest in capital projects at Gaughan Group Stadium and undertake an extensive review, alongside relevant stakeholders, into whether the ambitions of the football club can be met in our current stadium
We are early in the process and we intend to update supporters on our progress.
The existing board acknowledges that the potential long-term goal of a new stadium will require a level of funding beyond its current collective financial capability. However, many of our current investors are expected to participate in future rounds of investment.
Chairman Nigel Travis will answer supporter questions about the club’s new mission statement later this month. If you would like to submit a question for the Q&A, please complete the form below.
