In fairness Fisch, I would say the Leeds Utd of the Revie era also had some extremely good players in it who played some bloody good football. bit before my time, but we're they not called dirty Leeds? As you say a good team by all accounts and I've seen many a video of their thuggery and great play, maybe they balanced themselves out? Norman (bites yer legs) Hunter, Billy Bremner, Jackie Charlton and a few others were from memory really tough players, but that was the norm. In fact teams having hard men was almost accepted. Remember watching Dave Mackey at Spurs, now there was a tough nut. The game was less skilled than now, but entertaining, hard tackling the norm and play acting when getting knocked over by a strong wind thankfully not yet standard practice. Never really thought of players of that ilk thugs at the time. Today they would probably be very much considered that. I do recall Leeds being very unpopular as was Revie. His analysis of opposition players legendary, the guy did his homework and knew hi stuff. Half of my family hail from Leeds, one nephew remains a fan, the other likes Liverpool just to be annoying. Leeds vs Liverpool was a big thing at one time. Liverpool no shrinking violets either. Different game, different time.

Jackie Charlton was a very good centre half, in fact plenty good enough for England's world cup winning team of 1966 ! Nearly all of that Leeds team were regular internationals for their respective countries, hard yes but they could play some great football.
Remember this match from 1972, I do, the match highlights were played on the tv a lot at that time and at the end to see Leeds play possession football. Billy Bremner is number 4 and Johnny Giles number 10, who wouldn't want them in their own side !
Leeds United 7 - 0 Southampton 1972

Leeds United 7 - 0 Southampton 1972
Remember one Leeds game, maybe that one, where they completed endless passes, each being cheered by their fans, mocking the opposition who were chasing shadows. Didn’t like it then, don’t like it now. Disrespectful of fellow professionals. A good side with some really talented players. But disliked from memory.

It was during that demolition of Soton, they were show-boating like never seen before. Keepie-Uppie, back-heels etc.,

Perhaps you are remembering the end parts of the 7-0 win over Southampton ? There was a lot more of the ''where they completed endless passes, each being cheered by their fans, mocking the opposition who were chasing shadows'' in that game than was shown in that brief YouTube video I sent to you.

It was during that demolition of Soton, they were show-boating like never seen before. Keepie-Uppie, back-heels etc., Yes you are right, remember it well. Of course not all shown in the short YouTube video that I sent above. I was running a very good Sunday team at that time in 1972, some very experienced players in it, some were ex pros. Anyway everyone was talking about that game and for fun, we tried to copy Leeds and play possession football once we were leading by three or four goals. WE scored a goal after putting together around 60 passes without the other team touching the ball, great memories !!

Was it Jack Charlton who put his foot into a bucket of water in the days when the trainer ran on the pitch with half a bladder of water that was a cure all for any injury.

I remember watching that Leeds v Southampton game on Match of the Day or the Big Match. Even as a young man I wondered why the Southampton players didn't flatten the Leeds players who were showboating. They had Terry Paine and Brian O'Neal after all, who were renowned hard men and I wonder why they stood for it. Perhaps at 7-0 you couldn't really care less I suppose.

I did see a few naughty attempted tackles in those highlights, but all by Southampton players !
