Presumably it's only a year so he can play himself back into a Championship club. Don't blame him, but I'm disappointed we won't get any money for having faith in him.

For a guy who is 27, Simpson has not actually played that much first team football - only around 50 odd games. Might be the O’s are in the driving seat here and want him to prove himself before committing further?

It's a good sign.
He's a quality player and just the sort the Os will need if we are to challenge for promotion. One year contract sounds perfectly reasonably in all the circumstances.

Also: - Those games were in the Championship, Scottish Premier, and Premier League. - Cooper hadn't played many more before he came on loan, mostly in lower leagues, and we considered half a season of inconsistent displays worthy of a two and a half year deal. Granted he's younger, but not by loads. - We give players who haven't already played (and played well) for us longer contracts every window.

Good news. I’d have felt let down if he’d gone and signed with someone else after we gave him a way back into the game. But it’s good news that he’s staying, even if only for a year.

I'm not too excited about Simpson, not yet anyway. I hope he shows us he's a level 2 player but it's a bit too early for me to tell.

Clearly the potential is there but - as I said elsewhere - at 27 years old and only 50 first team games under his belt, there is still uncertainty. I hope the lad can take his chance with us this season and demonstrate his ability.👍

Good news. No objection if he is playing with the ambition to get back to the Championship. Hopefully all the players will be doing that.

At very least, it means we've filled a position for this season and can spend our energy on filling the numerous much needed other positions. I liked what I saw of Jack in the handful of appearances he made.

Pleased but a bit bemused by a one year contract.

At least he will start the season fit as he showed plenty of positives only to tire late in games due to fitness / match fitness not being at the level he would like to be at.
I think this is a good signing and bodes well for our squad depth and first 11.

If Happe signs up as well then we are in a good way at the back. I thought Jack looked solid despite all the time out of the game. He might be playing for a Championship place next season, but I think we should all take stock of last season, an excellent season, and tame our expectations. If we have a rough start again then so be it, keep our chins up and look forward to improvement. It would be wrong for supporters to get very downhearted right at the start of the season.
The owners said it was a five year plan.

He has presence at the back for sure, and what I have seen so far a decent passer of the ball, priceless in League 2 or any league.

Pleased with this, would have preferred a year plus a one year option. Showed enough quality despite not being match fit.

Simpson has shown he is comfortable with the ball at his feet and his distribution is top draw but I’ve yet to see that he is a dominant defender either in the air or on the ground. I much prefer central defenders like Stevenage pellegiani , or however his name is spelt. We would be o.k. If Happe is alongside either cooper, beckles or Simpson, but in my view any combination of the last 3 would be terrible.
