Midfielder Steven Alzate will leave Albion when his contract expires at the end of June.
The 25-year-old midfielder joined Albion in 2017 from Leyton Orient and made 72 appearances for the club in all competitions including 52 starts. For the last two seasons he has been on loan with Standard Liege in Belgium and played 47 times for them in all competitions. Albion technical director David Weir said, “We would like to thank Steven for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him all the very best for the future.”

Although he was playing in the premiership he never really hit the high spots as a player .

Football is a mercenary sport and we cannot blame players for seeking the best for themselves.Every Orient player takes a bit of the club with him good or bad.We always like to see them better themselves because it makes there time with the O's well spent.

He joined Brighton in 2017 and must of been on far higher wages than he would have got if he had stopped at the Os. For the last two seasons he has been on loan to Standard Liège who are one of the most successful clubs in Belgium.
Great experience for him and again no doubt on good money. Now a free agent, as long as he is fit with no long term injury's, should be quite easy for to find another decent club to play for. Footballers get very well rewarded nowadays, its a short career so football players might as well make the most of it while they can .

Were we not hoping SA would be sold for millions thereby filling our coffers from the sell-on clause?

He's clearly operating on a good level is the boy Alzate.
Shame we're missing out on a bit of football fortune by him leaving on a free. Big shame.

His agent will negotiate his new contract on his behalf and perhaps a one off signing on fee which will be part of the financial package.
Its all about getting the best deal for the individual player concerned !

Yep. As said above any sell-on/appearance clauses etc normally only apply while they are registered with the club you agreed the clause with. As he's now a free agent all clauses should be null and void when he joins a new club.

Seems the trend nowadays that if a professional football player is of a good standard, if offered a new contract and confident of their own abilities, quite often they can get a more lucrative deal by becoming a free agent then looking around for the best deal available to them ! A big blow to clubs who a few years before may have paid a large transfer fee to buy the player.

Goes on throughout the football pyramid no doubt.Raises the hackles at times but we have gained players using that system.

Oh yes, especially in recent seasons, Dan Agyei last season to name just one such player ! Wonder when was the last time that Leyton Orient paid a substantial transfer fee for a player ?

George Moncur alleged to be £300k Yes I forgot that, his transfer fee was raised by selling Hector to the Posh ! Look back to the 70s and 80s and Os regularly paid out some large transfer fees, some over £100,000 !

Didn't Ian Bowyer cost £100,000,but we must have made a decent profit when he left the O's.I believe we got Paul Beesly for a few quid with the intention of selling him on.
