If and when Scotland produce decent players they are snapped up by the big two in Scotland , Premier and Championship clubs. Even the lesser ones get their chance in the EFL to progress - if they are good enough. No shortage of opportunity to join teams amongst the best in Europe. Some will earn international recognition and be able to play elsewhere in Europe.
But they need to be good enough. If they are not then a lack of opportunity in the EU is irrelevant. They won’t be wanted anyway.

Plenty to stop them. UK players may not play in an EU country unless they are already an established international player. Otherwise, a work visa will be refused. Another win for Brexit. It’s the EU that stipulate that and it’s a restriction of trade by any measure. In any event I have no wish to reopen a debate about the merits or otherwise of Brexit with anyone on here - better to stick to football- what’s done is done and time we all moved on.👍

I think there's more to it than just that. Most Euro teams play a slow-slow-quick-slow game with much less reliance on muscle, aggression and sheer lung power, attributes found more in northern climes. The cost of scouting in Scotland is huge and most EU don't bother and leave it the EPL and EFL moneybags clubs. One way or another, players in Scotland have little chance to show their pure football skills and also have high expectations of their incomes. Apart from The Glasgow and Edinburgh clubs plus Aberdeen, the rest are of the SPL are at EFL1 level (I'm being generous there). Add in the Brexit isolation and you end up with the worst combination of factors to develop talent. Wales only have 4 teams of note, Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham and Newport. Yet they get further in international matches than the "sweaty socks" a nation of Romantic Losers the Welsh teams play in the English leagues.

Still only 4 of them and between them seem to muster enough players a darn site better than the Scottish crap on display against Germany

Is older O's fans can remember back in the 1970s when Scotland were better than England, so what's gone wrong?
PS. Scotland voted for more teams to qualify for the finals .... look where that's got them

Scotland beat Spain 2-0 at home in the qualifiers, so hardly a joke of a team, but they fell apart in the opening game against the hosts. Did losing 6-1 to Bromley make us a ‘joke of a team’, of course it didn’t, but BO loves to be contentious and stir the pot, so let’s just add the Scots to the list of women, travellers, Southend fans and doubtless plenty of others, that BO likes to moan about.

Was at the Bromley game and yes we were a joke, embarrassed, yes, peeed off , yes, we were crap. Didn't know I had spoke about women. Try living near to Travellers and or Scumend fans. At least we don't kill away fans or try to wreck away grounds as they try to do when visiting us.

I have slightly different angle on this is match. Everyone has raved about the Germany’s performance against Scotland but despite a 5-1 victory I wasn’t really that impressed with Germany and didn’t think that they looked that great at all and that they would have struggled to win against a good team.

For me it was not the score but the way they played. Right to say scores like that happen from time to time as we know. But where was the passion, the energy, the desire. Very little fight from a team already beaten at 1-0. The heads dropped, they went into their shell and just seemed like they wanted the final whistle. Passing accuracy went to pieces, Zero shots on goal (unique that with 0 shots they got 1). We’ve all seen our teams get tonked. But they had thousands who paid good money to see them, tens of thousands at home, pubs, clubs with their flags an so on. Just to watch players who seemed to have caved in at the first setback.

I would love it if our Scottish lad signed a new contract.I must admit I enjoy watching the SPL when the big two are not playing.A favourite team to watch is Hearts of Midlothian. Some of the fans shouts are a joy and the commentator often has to apologise.

To be fair Scotland has produced some of the best managers over the years, Busby, Ferguson, Shankly, Moyes.....

To be fair Scotland has produced some of the best managers over the years, Busby, Ferguson, Shankly, Moyes..... Back in the day I would agree, these managers were hued out of coal mines and steel Mills, ship building industries that produced tough working class folk. It so happened that the same industries had excellent sports facilities that encouraged sports. There wasn't the distraction of computers in this era or the likely hood of attending university. The main get out was sport to a better life.

British footballers have never really gone overseas to further their careers in the same numbers as many other nations. And why should they I guess, they can usually earn more in the domestic game than they can overseas. But I think it’s a pity, I honestly believe more experience playing in other leagues, against different players, experiencing different ways of playing, training and living would be very good for their development as players (and maybe even as people).
But I guess that ship has sailed with brexit. If players didn’t do it when it was easy to do, they’re certainly not likely to start doing it now that it’s harder to do.

Another BREXITEER bonus. But blue passports and unicorns dancing on the sunlit uplands they cry.

They tried hard but despite the lions share of possession they failed to get 1 shot on target. Yet again we see possession as no guide to outcome.

No guile or thought from Manager down, in the last minute of play, in the very last charge forward from Hungary, you bring the geezer down, take one for the team maybe even sent off but at least play is stopped the stragglers get back , all in front of the ball, frustrated the opposition however it stops them winning, called playing the game out. Even Mctomany was rubbish, Felt sorry for David Moyes trying to be kind to them even he gave up. He would be a good manager for Scotland, However that ship has sunk and is even more of a poison challis than England job.
