Unlucky with the penalty..What happened to VAR?? I agree, imo that was a nailed on penalty, I thought the Scots were unlucky, in saying that though at the end of the day when all you have to show for your efforts is 1 point and the only goals for are two own goals scored by your opponents its no surprise they're out.

Unlucky with the penalty..What happened to VAR?? Didn’t think it was a penalty, the Scottish player was tugging too much at the defenders shirt. 6 of one etc. The referee made the call. I made him right.

I like the idea of referees making a decision and VAR only coming into play where it’s reasonable to consider the referee may have got it wrong and a review is warranted. But the referee decision remains final. In this case I can see both sides. So referee call works for me. I do find it amusing that pundits criticise VAR then moan when it’s not used. Always gonna happen. They have a duty to fill the void with chat. Tight offsides too are a valid VAR use.

Not for me, Clive. If anything the scot fouled the defender The Argie ref got it spot in, in my opinion anyway

I think for the big decisions it might just be better for the ref to go to the screen, especially with the game stopped anyway. I seem to be in a tiny minority that think the Netherlands' disallowed goal the other day was also the correct decision, but Taylor's gotta go to the screen and make his own decision there. I also disagree about the tight offsides. If it's that tight then just give the goal. Otherwise the semi-automated offside calls seem to be working really well in this tournament so do that instead. I can't stand all the drawing lines nonsense. Get rid.

That's what makes the games so great so many opinions. For what it is worth, I watched the game with my wife and she screamed "penalty" I said "you're having a laugh" we both saw the same thing both had a different conclusion.
I thought in real Time the forward was trying to buy the pen, and turned into him to exaggerate the movement. The ref I guess saw the same thing.
My wife was having none of my explanation and said its a penalty as clear as day. I could see why it would be given as much as why it wouldn't be given. In this case the ref made the right call and VAR could not interfer as there was no obvious mistake made by the ref.
