The fact he's gone to a League Two team says it all Sadly it does, although I'm pretty staggered at this. So you thought that of Mullin when he dropped down to NL Wrexham or the Hartlepool manager who dropped down to Stockport or Smyth when he dropped down to us. Interesting.

Oxford seemed to be our biggest rivals for Idris and this evening they have just announced the signing of central midfielder Louie Sibley from Derby.
Look I don't want to get to excited but all I'm saying is there's a chance

Sorry but I am pleased he has gone, never fully fit and in my view never influenced a game when he did pay. I am surprised that we got a fee for him though I suspect it was minimal. Portsmouth away playing at #10? sadly we didn’t see it consistently. Just looked too lightweight for me

Well, well, well.
Surprised by this, but if it’s so we can get Idris in then I’m not as it says RW sees Zach as a far better player / potential then Max is or could be. Zach impressed me so much when he came into the side and this coming season I can only see him get better still and with Idris with him that’s some pairing I’m the middle or has the potential to be at least.
If this is what we are doing then I’m all over it like a bad rash.

I kept hoping Max would get it together and show us he has something special but one spectacular reverse pass to Shaq was not enough. Perhaps he wanted to leave?

Not altogether surprising imho. Another guy who - for whatever reason - RW didn’t seem to fancy as a player even on the infrequent occasions he was fit. Maybe the club is going to go all out and will try and bring El Mizouni back after all? That certainly has its merits but given the likely fee we would have to pay I hope it’s not a case of putting all our eggs in one basket. The NT “ two to three weeks” timeframe expires tomorrow so the chances of getting in the five players Wellens has stated he still needs by then seems remote. As said above though, still time although I’m guessing he’d want things done and dusted before the squad travels to Spain if possible.

If this is what we are doing then I’m all over it like a bad rash. The sense of this will become clear when replacements are recruited. Sanders is a good player plagued by injuries last season but they must now be sorted or Crewe would not have spent money on him. I doubt any are suggesting we get rid of Graham or Agyie because of their injuries last season and many are hoping Theo signs despite not being ready for Christmas. So in my opinion that aspect of him going doesn’t hold water. But to replace an experienced league 1 player with kids at this time makes no sense at all. Stevenage built their squad last season on experience and the results were clear. We relied on younger players and RW consistently spoke about fatigue in them. Bring them on slowly as backup, not regulars. I’m assuming Sanders will be replaced by a decent seasoned professional. Idris would be great assuming he is over his injury. But failing that a solid replacement. Time will tell, but the clock continues to run.

In relation to Sanders departure and a potential replacement, I noticed George Dobson ex of Charlton Athletic is still available as a free agent. Decent player and a good age ( 26) the DoF might do worse than look there perhaps?

The fact he's gone to a League Two team says it all 100+ games in league 1 is proof enough he can operate at our level. Maybe he just wants guaranteed starts in league 2 than his usual bit parts with us. We don’t know who is coming in and hopefully as good as he is, we get better. But anyone seeing him play knows well he is good enough in league 1. I’m sure people made similar comments about Smyth when he dropped down. Are Crewe one of the big clubs challenging for promotion this year? Maybe that influenced him Better to be a big fish ....

Whilst it's frustrating that this has made a thin squad a little bit thinner, the overreaction on social media is something to behold.
You'd think we had just lost a 30 goal a season striker rather than an injury prone midfielder who probably wouldn't have been a starter anyway.
It's all about the replacements.

It’s the current lack of replacements that’s driving the reaction I suspect ! 😄👍

Transfer activity has ramped up yet apart from a couple of loan players with yet to be seen quality in league 1 we have made our squad weaker by shipping out experience. That definitely is driving the reaction and RW complaints about the start of last season just makes things worse. But we wait and hope. And believe we cannot make the same mistakes that meant playing catch-up last season. Can we? Nah. We ain’t that stupid.

Dobson agreed a contract at a Hungarian club, but they mutually agreed to cancel it.
Had we tried to sign him direct from Charlton we would probably have had to make him our highest earner to tempt him. As it stands now though he's currently unemployed so got to be worth talking to.

There are more players available than places available throughout the football pyramid. No need to panic.

Sanders is a good young player but you don't raise money selling bad old players. Who else in our squad would a) fetch a half-decent fee and b) the twitter hordes be happy with us losing? As thin as the squad might look, we're fine in the positions he plays. The only midfielder we really need is Idris or similar and he ain't that.
