To a consortium. No more Ron Martin, no more court appearances, no more risk of closing down. Their fan base can, after years of chaos, look forward to a brighter future. I may be in the minority on here but I’m pleased for them. Club with loads of history but fallen on hard times, something we understand only too well.

Thought that had been done with the Australian bloke Justin something a year ago Got tangled up with some building development where they were originally going to build a new ground. The Consortium had invested to a level to help save the club from closure but didn’t want to invest further until they owned the club. Land deals/planning/local council stuff. Needed to be sorted before the sale could be finalised.

New football club owners often come in with good intentions and a fanfare of hope for the fans, then quite often a few years on, the owners bale out and the club is back to more or less where they started. Lets hope this works out as a good long term deal for the club and the new owners. For myself, unless the owners are mega wealthy, seems like taking on the responsibility of a small football club does not make for very good business sense.

Thought that had been done with the Australian bloke Justin something a year ago It is that consortium headed by the Australian who has bought the club. They didn’t want to complete the purchase until they could buy the ground, which has now been agreed. Martin agreed to sell Roots Hall because the council have agreed to a compromise on housing at the proposed training ground at Fossets Farm. The consortium have got a big job on their hands to redevelop Roots Hall main stand, it’s a sh1t hole, but I guess they’ll try and add value By knocking it down and incorporating a hotel, that’s the new way.

They have a loyal and sizeable fan base, here's their home attendances for last season, comparable to ours imo and they're non league, the potential for them to progress is phenomenal imo. www.footballwebpages.co.uk/southend-united/attendances/2023-2024I lived in Southend for a couple of years recently 2021 - 2023 and during that time worked as a Bus Driver for Arriva, I didn't realise before but the catchment area is massive, everyday not just on matchdays driving my bus I'd see people wearing Southend United shirts most notably teenage kids! I saw more kids in Southend wearing the Southend United shirt than I did kids like in London wearing an array of Premier League clubs shirts. I spoke to many many Southend supporters that got on my bus at various times and I found them to be an ok bunch even after I'd told them during the conversation I was an Orient fan, had some good banter with them on the bus too on matchdays! I wish them every success because I'm sure with decent owners they will climb back into the EFL and it won't be long before we're playing them again.

They'll probably make it to the Championship before us. Well they played there far more recently than us. Their last Championship game was against Southampton and I went along to watch already relegated Southend with my Shrimper mates. They got beat. I decided to wear my Orient shirt and got accosted and abused by a group of Southend fans who felt I was trying to take the Hiss watching them go down whilst wearing Os colours. As if. Since then they have been on a long, painful, slippery slope to near collapse. Yet retain to this day a largish fan base.

Wonder how they will fare this season and what will become of Roots Hall.Be good to play them again, would have made a great pre-season home game, but I suppose it would have been played as a very robust cup tie.Players laid out everywhere.
